Hello,

After reading nearly everything on this site for the last half decade I decided to make the dive into the deep end. My name is Ben Hollerbach and I’m from Atlanta, GA. My love for golf and golf course architecture originates with my father and learning how to play on a nice little Donald Ross course in western North Carolina. He taught my brother and I to study the course and look for what the builder is trying to communicate to the player. As often times the best strategy is right in front of you if you know what to look for. While my childhood is littered with competitive golf at nearly every level, today my competitive play is almost entirely limited to hickory tournaments. I find playing with hickory clubs allows me to better connect with the past as well as simplify the game into a much more enjoyable outing.

I’m always blown away at the knowledge shared on this site and hope I can do my little part in contributing to this worthwhile endeavor.

Thanks for having me...

JC Jones

Welcome, Ben.  Which WNC Ross did you grow up on?

Also, is it pronounced Holler-Back like the Fabolous song or is it Bach like the composer?
I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Excellent spellers usually lack any vision or common sense.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.

Ben,

Going from lurker to poster is akin to experimenting with heroin by snorting it on weekends and then suddenly plunging a needle in your arm.

No matter how hard I try to kick this habit, it always pulls me back - even after being away for months and months.

I had a learned doctor many years ago tell me that the difference between a heavy drinker and an alcoholic was that for somebody who is truly hooked, booze becomes the organizing principle of their lives.

If you are not careful, by next year your wife will find you glued to the computer 12 hours a day, slobbering into a drooling cup arguing about the cosmic significance and religious implications of Redan holes.

Flee while you can.

It's Bach like the composer, although more often than naught people pronounce it the other way.

I grew up at the Country Club of Asheville. Which to me is nearly a perfect country club course. Fair and accommodating for the weekend warrior while still presenting a stern test for the accomplished player. I'm rather excited that the US Hickory Open will be contested there later this year, hopefully my 20+ years of experience on those greens will give me a leg up.

You're not the only one Ben thinking this way. Welcome and enjoy.
