It says it has the "Head Speed" shaft. It it's like the original that's a big part of the classic 8802 appeal and the reason IMHO that all the many other heel-shafted blades out there just don't compare.

Too bad they didn't go the extra mile and find someone to build them a real leather grip for it...

I asked my Pro to order me one--and to specifically ask if they had a leather grip available. Is Neuman still making putter wraps?

Those Neumann wraps were hard to find, last I heard. But it's the underlistings that are no longer available at all.

It's easier to find skivved leather wrap material than to find a properly shaped and sized underlisting.

Nice! Try also that knocked-kneed, hunched over stance and the wristy, poppy stroke, and remember to hitch up the pant so that some of the socks show - and heck, might as well tuck in the sweater and light up a Chesterfield too. I'm telling you, I can confidently predict that this will be your best year on the greens ever!!

My current putter is a prototype of this...old school with a modern twist.

JME,

Not that I do many anymore, but you can cut the cover off an old Winn putter grip and voila!- you have an underlisting.

JME.
I think I still have a few grip gaps which you're welcome to if you need them.

Sadly,I've already got the wristy, poppy stroke and I'm a Marlboro short guy.

You're just not going to give up on that tucked in sweater look, are you?

Jeff - what can I say, I really do think it a good look!

Jim - a question out of the blue (based on your tip to Jeff): did you ever make your own clubs, or make them for other people? Did you ever assemble irons and woods from separate parts, or actually mill/carve a driver? if so, do you miss those days?

Jim,thanks for your kind offer but Gripmaster just makes things too easy. Plus,I'm not sure who I'd still trust to wrap a leather grip--talk about a skill no longer needed.

I do have a circa 1972 8802 with a Neuman wrap sitting 10 feet from where I'm typing this. The leather is still in amazing shape.

While we are tralking about putting.
If anybody is tired of being iced/snowed in get yourself one of these and practice on the carpet.
Great putting aid.
No....no stake in it ...just love the little gizmo ;D

It should be "The Wilson 8802" .  Not sure why they changed that.

What took you so long to respond???????
You dont have one?
It is great if you believe in straight back, not for "arc" putters though.

One of my buddies was practicing on our putting green Saturday.  He had a gizmo in the cup that sent the ball back to him.  How cool is that?

I still have my old 8813 from high school. Had to have the aluminum shaft replaced after it got a spike through it when someone stepped on my carry bag. That was not an easy shaft to get. Great putter but need a better grip than what I have on it.
