Just stumbled across an interesting 20-page history covering the history of the Hollywood Golf Club, Norwood Field Club (nle) & Norwood Golf Club (nle) in West Long Branch, New Jersey. The Norwood course was done by Tillinghast. The final and current Hollywood by Travis is in Deal, NJ.The club's 1st course was in Long Branch and the club's 2nd course (designed by Bendelow) was in West Long Branch.

It is in PDF format. I do not know how to set up a link to it. You can find it by doing a web search for "Golf Links to West Long Branch."

If anyone can set up a link, that would be great.

Seen below are three very insightful drawings of Norwood courtesy of Phil Young.  It looks like a pretty neat course!

Thanks for posting those drawings. Tillinghast designed two other golf courses within 10-15 miles of Norwood (Suneagles & Old Orchard) that are still operating.

Suneagles was absorbed into Fort Monmouth and was a military course for many decades. With the de-commisioning of Fort Monmouth, I believe the course is now open for public play.

Old Orchard (with a par-5 island green!) was a semi-private course for many years. It was threatened with closure for real estate development a few years ago.

The Norwood site was first developed, in 1902, by the Hollywood Golf Club as a Tom Bendelow-designed course. HGC left that property in 1912 for the Walter Travis-designed course in Deal, NJ.
