Visiting Aus & NZ for the 2015 cricket World Cup?
« on: July 28, 2013, 04:36:16 PM »
Dates and fixtures for the 2015 cricket world cup will be announced on July 30.

It will be hosted by Australia and New Zealand and is expected to carry a February/March timeframe (get yourself in form for northern hemisphere season to begin!).

Perfect time for a GCA event, with great golf to be had around matches held in Melbourne, Sydney, Wellington, Auckland, Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth & Canberra.

Beyond that, Barny Dunes and Lost Farm,  plus Cape Wickham should be open at the last for preview rounds by then.

The Aussie dollar has gone nuts vs $US and £GB in the past couple of years but is beginning to pull is head in. Great time for Americans and Brits to head our way.

Who is keen?

I would definitely be interested in coming from the states for a GCA outing in February 2015. I will be turning 40 that month and have already been considering making a tour of Australia and New Zealand at that time. Of course, I haven't broached that subject with the wife yet.  ;D

Just finished watching the excellent series Top of the Lake. A must see for any American considering travel to New Zealand. So happy to see the US dollar strengthening. In the last few years it has gone from .70 to 1.10 and now around .92. Amazing what currency fluctuations can do to a budget.

Keen for the NZ leg. NZ Cricket is going through some changes at the moment and after our recent performances against England we may have a chance. Aussies not looking so good  :P

Something to think about, but there is a good chance the NZ Open will be played at the Hills in Queenstown around that time. There is a long list of courses that could be played down there and should be a must stop destination for visitors.

I went to NZ for the Rugby World Cup two years ago.  Cape Kidnappers and Kauri Cliffs are both amazing places but crazy expensive.  But it you can afford it I would go to both - how often are you going to get down there?

Scott,

I would be happy to arrange a GCA event in Hawaii for any fellow Australian's that want to get out of the country when the cricket world cup is on.

Could it be time for a Boomerang event to be incorporated in this time frame?

Cape Wickham as a venue?

Is the plan to burn the Aussie team at the stake right after the Ashes or to wait for a suitable moment, say the opening ceremonies, during the world cup? If the latter I could be up for making the trip as I love bread and circuses.

Dave, make it Fiji and I'm in - the online/tv reception there is much worse, so may prove most beneficial.

A nice idea Scott and I would certainly consider participating if an itinerary emerged. I suppose for many of our US friends the appeal of coinciding with the cricket is less powerful and needs to be set against possible hassle of lots of visitors?

Philip,

Good to hear you could be keen.

Your point re: the Americains is probably true of 99%, but I know exactly have a few in this DG who enjoy cricket,  so I thought I'd toss out the lure!

McLean park in Napier is quite close to Cape Kidnappers, not to mention the Hawke's Bay wine region.

Like Wayne, I went to the RWC in NZ two years ago, and there was no problem or hassle due to the number of visitors.  Great trip!

I would sell the house and live rough to see that happen!

Aussies vs England at Melbourne apparently. No brainer for anyone interested, surely.
