In the past I have photographed 7 courses in the Vilamoura , Silves area. For those of you who have played some of these courses could you give me some feedback as to your experience.

Aidan.

Aidan not quite sure what you are after.  "Experience" of playing the courses, or the service.

I had a good time about 4 years ago in February. As a single they paired me up with a Group on Old but I played Millennium as a single and it was a slow  round until I jined up with others.  San Lorenzo  again featured delightful company and is the one I’d most like to see again.

Two and a half good courses. The boring bit was the Joe Lee housing half of  the Millennium, Really enjoyed the Hawtree Half. Even in February they were overwatered making it impossible to bounce a ball on to the green.

Does this help?
Let's make GCA grate again!

Thanks Tony. I guess I meant the overall experience. The service, course conditions, value for money, the architecture. The courses I shot were The Old Course, the Millennium, Pinhal, Victoria, Laguna, Faldo, O'Connor.

Aidan

I've been to Vilamoura a few times but its been perhaps 7 or 8 years since I was last there so not sure how relevant my comments may be. Vilamoura is a nice town to base yourself in with plenty of bars and good restaurants however if you are looking for "lively entertainment" in the evenings then its perhaps not the best, certainly not in comparison to some of the party hotspots along the Costa Del Sol.

Golf wise, the standard of the courses is better say than what you generally get along the Costa Del Sol. I very much enjoyed my one play at Victoria but then I played out of my boots, San Lorenzo was terrific although its one of those courses where the whole is more than the sum of the parts if you know what I mean, while the Old Course is my favourite course there, just a terrific layout. The other courses were good also and can't honestly say I played a course I wouldn't want to play again.

Can't comment on value for money, as I say, its been a number of years since I've been however I expect the people are just as friendly now as they were then. Overall, an excellent golfing destination.

I've been there and played one of the lesser courses, but I don't know what it was called. It was expensive and a bit bland, but the others are probably much better.

I've been to the area a few times and like it. The Portuguese are friendly people.

All the courses are very close together and easy to get to. Good food in the area. Marina is busy.

I found Vilamoura Old to have a nice ambience with a smallish clubhouse and terrace - felt from a different era and that was welcome amonst a lot of modern service in the area... Course had some fine moments also.... The Faldo / O'Connor experience was plush and very well done for a new development that could have been tasteless... Completely different to the Vilamoura Old. Fine driving range and practice facilities and very comfortable and large clubhouse.... Faldo course had that Desert course feeling whilst O'Connor course had the Florida Palm Tree feeling (I suspect)....
