When down in the HHI area recently I was disturbed to be told at another local private club that the club was redoing greens (4 or 5) at Wexford due to member complaints.
Now I can see that these fabulously creative greens could take some getting used to by the indigenous population but they did receive overwhelming acclaim from the Dixie Cup vagabonds two seasons ago.
In case any one else catches wind of this I emailed Brandon Johnson of Palmer Design and he replied that the third green was being redone because of a turf die off issue and 15 , which is a two tired green fronted by water , green's back shelf was being redone. Fortunately this was the only green and condition which most of us took issue with because that back shelf did seem too small and of improper shape, to receive shots, even layup wedges.
per Brandon:
" Unfortunately Wexford had some turf issues late last summer and the third green got hit pretty hard. (They were absolutely perfect until August) Since the membership wasn't crazy about that one anyway we were asked to look at alternatives. The back shelf and surrounds on 15 might get modified too.
Nothing too major. The club is very interested in raising the bar so that is good."
I hope to play the new Old Tabby redesign this trip down as well.
Cheers
