videos from BD...thoughts please
« on: November 15, 2012, 11:13:27 AM »
learnied of the "Old McDonald" video available @ BD website by Shackelford's article last week,
I started to order this am...
and
discovered that there were two OTHER videos, on the "making" of BD and PD......

Geoff's recommendation is sufficient to buy the Old Mac....

Can anyone "review" the Bandon or Pacific videos ( fyi $10 for OM, but $30 for the other two...???)

Not really an answer, but wanted to comment here about the OM DVD.  Got it yesterday and sat down and watched it along w/ the extra features.  Really a great DVD and a must watch for any Bandon fan or anyone interested in golf course architecture.  Just the insight on some of the original template CBMac holes was worth the buy.

I've only played Old Mac once, and it was 38* and raining so it really didn't get a fair shake from me that day and felt it was weaker than its Bandon brothers.  After watching the DVD, I'm wishing to get back soon to see the course in a new light.  Great piece, and also curious about the other DVDs.

I am a very big fan of Bandon Dunes and own all three of the videos - the Old MacDonald is by far the best product of the three in my opinion.  With that said, if you love all things that are Bandon Dunes, then purchasing the other two makes sense..

Scott:

The other two videos are "architect's tours" of Bandon Dunes and Pacific Dunes, with David Kidd and me explaining the holes and how to play them ... only a little background on how they were built or why we designed certain features as we did.  But they are good tours of the two courses.

And no, I don't get a commission.

I happened to watch Creating Old Macdonlad yesterday and really, really enjoyed it. It's very well done, entertaining and educational. I also think it's an important historical documentation that should be done more often these days with easily available technology.

As others have said, imagine a similar film featuring Mackenzie and Hunter working on Cypress Point?!

The Pac Dunes video is definitely worth getting.  Haven't seen the BD one...

I have only seen the Old Mac video and it was really great! I need to buy the others next time I am there.

Agreed.

I got the video several months ago and have watched it 3 times since. I have the videos of Bandon and Pac Dunes, and while they're both good, they pale in comparison to the video quality and the content of the Old Mac video.

Here's a link to a discussion on the Old Mac video, with comments from the director, Michael Robin.
