Got to play this great Tilly course for the first time a few weeks ago with a good friend

After the sturdy first , a 448 yd (yardages from the  champ. tees, 6756) dogleg right, the all world Redan, 205 yards

the uphill 2nd to the 3rd, par 4, 376 yds

the 4th and its dolomites, 457 yds

there might just be an elephant buried in the 5th, 343  yds...

where the racetrack was...the 6th, dogleg right par 5, 501 yds...as my partner said "So many architects would have just bulldozed over that feature"...

ridge in 6th green

an idea of the massive scale of the 484 yd par 4 7th (#1 handicap, trouble all down the right)

the big and testing 230 yd par 3 8th (fairways had just been sanded)

2nd over cross bunkers on the dogleg left uphill true 3 shot par 5, 529 yds...note tilt of the fairway

more to follow...

tee shot of the dogleg right par 4 11th, 412yards... a layup for most ...and that is NOT the green in the background

2nd to 11..those trees on the right do block approaches from the right side of the fairway

the green we saw on the 11th was the green for this hole, the short but dangerous downhill par 3 12th, 151 yards

13th green, a Biarritz (par par 4, 409 yds, with a blind landing area off the tee)

downhill approach on the wonderful 15th, a dogleg right , 407yds...note the creek in front

the fine par 3 16th, 170 yds

DOWNHILL approach to 17, 387 yds

So many great golf holes at Tilly's most unique design..thanks much to Adam Machala, the pro, for a truly wonderful day

Great fall photos, Paul. Thanks for posting. As you said, a VERY unique design by Tilly.

Unbelievable!  So much interest, not only in and around the greens, but in the natural and man-made features like the racetrack (reminds me a little of the ancient road at Deal), the wonderful use of the creek, the dolomites and all the mounding, etc. etc.  Thanks for the tour!

Cheers

Paul,  thanks for posting the pictures... just reminds me that Somerset is one of my favorite courses.  It must have 6 or 7
signature type holes on the backside.  Loved it.

Paul,

The tree removal program has been very successful and has greatly improved the play and views at SHCC.

Pat,  I agree that the tree clearing is a big improvement- still could take out another 500 or so between 11,12,14,15,16. We all commented that if this were done the vistas would be incredible given the natural roll of the property. The area on the right side of 15 would probably be less boggy with better air movement as well. The front nine is pretty well cleared as it is IMO.
