Orlando practice facilities.
« on: October 01, 2012, 04:02:34 PM »
Hello, dear sirs!

Looking for a nice practice facility which would fit a pro golfer the best - should be very good for short game, putting and wedge game practice. Do anybody know if there is such a place in the Orlando, FL area?

Thanks a lot for your help in advance.

Lake Nona. A pile of professionals already call it home.

Champions Gate
Marriot Faldo's centre
Both great facilities if you can get access.

Orange County National.

Second that, huge circular range, nice short game areas and public access.

A bit further away - on the other side of the state - is the very accessible World Woods!

I prefer the practice facility over its courses.

World Woods sounds good on paper, but in practice, it blows. They have 8 or so practice tees in a circle, but only have 1 or maybe 2 side by side open at any given time. Also, the range is hilly with a bunch of small elevated grrens, so you cant see where your ball lands 1/2 the time

Isleworth is a nice joke! It's a very very private club.

Checked the OCN today - looks like a golf practicing Mecca. Will see the Lake Nona and Black Bear tomorrow.

BTW, WW while a great course isn't good for a professional player practice.

Orange County National has great facilities without membership necessary.

I live right beside Lake Nona and know the area very well.  So if I can help you out with anything in this corner of Orlando, let me know.

Hi, Jason!

I have checked the Lake Nona today. Found out it is also a private club. Are you a member there, do you know if it is possible to get access to its facilities w/o purchasing property/full membership.

At the moment, the two places i liked the most are Faldo GI and OCN. Black Bear looks like the best price, but it is farther away from the center and also the facilities look more modest. Faldo seems to be the only place with the good wedge game practice ground, which they call V Score or something like that. While OCN is just huge and seems to have almost everything but at the same time i feel like it could get real windy in the winter due to all that wide open scale.

Sorry -- didn't realize you didn't know Lake Nona was private.  Lots of pros life there (Faldo, Annika, Nobilo) as well as Lou Holtz & others.

I'm not a member -- and I live in the neighborhood next to it (so there is a big wall between my house and theirs)!  I just see those guys at the grocery store (Faldo is HUGE!)

I just called my neighbor who's a golf pro and he said Faldo's and OC National is probably the best for having every thing you'd want and is public.

Orlando is loaded. Besides the clubs mentioned, the Faldo facilities have good practice set ups. I always like the norman ritz carleton practice facility as well.

Faldo Institute is a great choice.  There is also the Academy at Grand Cypress.  If you want a place to practice while playing minitour stuff, don't make a decision without checking out Rio Pinar.  Champions Gate's Leadbetter Academy is good too.  No shortage around Orlando.

North Shore too, it's over by Lake Nona.  I know Robert Gamez used to be out there when it opened.

In addition to the range -- and there is a 'back of the range' you can go to down by the 2nd tee -- they have nice practice greens plus practice sand greens.  They also have very fast, very good greens.
