Not sure if this has been noted previously.

Golf's Grand Design," a new 60 minute HD documentary debuting on August 3rd at 10pm on PBS, examines the history and role of American golf course architecture and explores the unique relationship between the people who play the game and the places where they play.

"This is a wonderful subject for PBS viewers and knowledge of it will deepen the appreciation for an activity that is already a passion for millions of Americans." (D. Boswell)

Golf's playing fields have recognizable characteristics.......but golf is the only sport played on a field with no specific dimensions. "Golf's Grand Designs" focuses on golf course architecture from the 1880s through present day and highlights some of America's best known and most influential courses including: The National Golf Links of America..Baltusrol...Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx...Augusta National...The Dunes (SC)...Pinehurst #2...Crooked Stick...Sand Hills...Shadow Creek...Bandon Dunes and Old Macdonald...

Behind these unique courses are the colorful and creative individuals who helped fashion them. The rise of golf in America over the past 130 years is due in large to the artistry of the people who design the courses....(CB, Bendelow, Tilly, A. Mac, Ross, RTJ, Dye, Jack, Fazio, Doak, Ben and Bill, and golf architecture experts Uncle George and Whitten.

The program also explores various eras and trends that impacted course design and the game.

Thanks, Gene. PBS has a fabulous app for the iPad that allows viewing of their shows.  I'm sure this documentary will be available "on demand" shortly after its original broadcast.

Here's the last topic on the program.

On the link Wayne posted there are also 12 other videos, I assume filmed from the program, which total about 30 minutes of footage (to include portions/all of? the interview Tom Doak referred to)
