I do not see a byline anywhere on the page that is linked. But in reading the article, I can say I'd bet my house that the article was not written by the esteemed Mr. Finegan. I don't remember him ever quoting the club professional about what was the best hole on a course, the vocabulary in the article is too weak, and the article is nowhere near long enough to be one of Jim's.
When Jim wrote all those articles for GOLF JOURNAL about UK courses 25-30 years ago, he would sometimes call me to ask if I had pictures of a particular course. One of his pieces that I supplied pictures for was on Brancaster, and I was really looking forward to his article on it. When it came out, I read the four-page piece, and nowhere did he mention the tidal problems of access there -- I wondered if he could have possibly just visited the club at low tide and been unaware of it, so I called him and asked him, and he explained that he had saved that fact for the grand conclusion to his piece and it had been edited out for lack of space.
