S2:  are you sure this is the same Jim Finegan?  I glanced at that article a few weeks ago and I came to the conclusion it was not.

Joe,

It appears that THE Jim Finegan is not the author of this article as he is a James W. Finegan (with one n)  and not a Jim Finnegan(with 2 ns.)

Correction just posted.

I do not see a byline anywhere on the page that is linked.  But in reading the article, I can say I'd bet my house that the article was not written by the esteemed Mr. Finegan.  I don't remember him ever quoting the club professional about what was the best hole on a course, the vocabulary in the article is too weak, and the article is nowhere near long enough to be one of Jim's.  :)

When Jim wrote all those articles for GOLF JOURNAL about UK courses 25-30 years ago, he would sometimes call me to ask if I had pictures of a particular course.  One of his pieces that I supplied pictures for was on Brancaster, and I was really looking forward to his article on it.  When it came out, I read the four-page piece, and nowhere did he mention the tidal problems of access there -- I wondered if he could have possibly just visited the club at low tide and been unaware of it, so I called him and asked him, and he explained that he had saved that fact for the grand conclusion to his piece and it had been edited out for lack of space.  :)

I give JF credibility on anything he puts his name too. He has not steered me wrong and that includes over 50 courses and over 20 hotels now. If it is not the same JF as Tom think then I give zero credibility to this author.

I think the very next hole at Glen Mills is tougher!
