I don’t doubt the importance of caddies, but we have no proof Steve Williams did a bad job. Who knows, maybe Steve Williams was the reason Scott was only 1 shot behind at the end & not 3 or 4 behind.

I believe the golfer is the boss. Apart from their caddies, many of them have a coach or two, a trainer, a manager, an accountant/financial adviser, and more. It’s like a little company, of which the golfer is the boss. The buck stops with him.

And don’t worry about my sleep deprivation. I get up, or sometimes stay up, to watch the Open Championship every year whether an Australian is on top of the leaderboard or not. It’s easily my favourite major.

One of us must be psychic, Andrew.  What you said about Stevie's possibly HELPING Adam was the exact point I made in Reply #12 two days ago.

I simply think that one can't dismiss the possible influence of a caddy, good or bad.  On the back nine at the Open something went downhill for Adam, and whether Stevie helped, hurt, or was irrelevant, we don't know.

There is no way to know what was going through Adam Scott's head, the role of Steve Williams, and unless he tells us why he hit 3-wood on 18, we'll never know. Sometimes demons lurk. It's the 72nd hole of a major, he just let a lead slip... who knows? Only Adam knows.

Perhaps it's an Aussie thing, hitting your tee shot into cross bunkers on the last hole of a major?

It was sad to watch but he's young and has gobs of talent; I hope it makes him more determined... even tougher. Watson blew his share of majors when he was young too (his loss a few years ago, that was a real gut wrencher).

It's true Watson blew some majors early on - 74 and 75 US Opens - but he won at Carnoustie at 25. His last major win was when he was 33.
Scott is now 31 I think. He is young - but as a famous Australian football coach once said 'it's later than you think'
