Bay Area Mini-Event at Crystal Springs - Sunday, July 24
« on: July 05, 2011, 03:46:26 PM »
Gentlemen,

In what I hope we can turn into a regular get-together, I would like to propose our third GCA Bay Area open round of 2011.  Since we've played the prior two rounds in the East Bay, it's only fair to head over to the peninsula.

The suggested course is Crystal Springs, in Burlingame.  Here is a thread from several years ago:  http://www.golfclubatlas.com/forum/index.php/topic,27476.0.html

I personally have not yet played the course.  I am interested in seeing the "quirk" that seems to frequently get mentioned in threads about the course.

Please reply to this thread if you would be interested in playing.  I'd love to get at least two groups together.

PROBABLES:
Joel Lahrman
Alex S
Tim Leahy
Patrick Kiser
Kyle Henderson

MAYBES:
David Tepper

Previous rounds have taken place at Monarch Bay:  http://www.golfclubatlas.com/forum/index.php/topic,48315.0.html

And Metropolitan:  http://www.golfclubatlas.com/forum/index.php/topic,47871.0.html

I would be interested.

Although I guess most of the people who have been playing in these are early morning golfers, let me also offer up the idea of twilight at Half Moon Bay--their eclub rate is $59 incl cart after 3pm.  If not for July 24th, I'm open to anyone messaging me to do that another day.

Count me in, I have never played Crystal Springs.
I love golf, the fightin irish, and beautiful women depending on the season and availability.

Excellent, that's three already.

I reckon we might need to bring a camera.  I do not believe there are any photos of this course on the website at the moment.

Let's see some more signups from the Bay Area crew.  Don't make me PM you.

I should be in.  Got plans on the 23rd, so this would normally work out.

Thanks again for planning Joel!

I should be in, so long is it doesn't conflict with my mother's birthday plans that weekend.

Sorry, I have to cancel.  Something has come up and I will not be able to make it.  Hopefully next time. Enjoy your rounds.

Yours truly:

6th: 427 yard - Par 4

12th: 389 yards - Par 4 ... Herbert Fowler original?

Did Kyle get a new hat at the Giants game today?

And the picture of #6 doesn't really do the hole justice ... is it possible for the entire hole, tee to green, to play like a redan?

#12 is not a Fowler original,
he never had it going up the hill.
That hole was by Billy Bell Jr. (1964?)
when the course was redone to make room
for highway 280. The same time that
Cal, and Lake Merced were nudged over.
I have a copy of Fowler's plans (Dec. 1920),
but was never able to locate Bell's.

I hadn't seen these updates...thanks for the pictures.

Sorry to have missed this.  I think the course looks like it's worth a round though, I will make sure to get there soon.

The next suggested round for the BAGCAT is Sunday, August 28.  Location TBD.  I will start a new thread.  A total of 11 different GCAers have now participated in our three rounds so far this year.  Don't be left out in the cold.  Hope to see you at the next round.

It's interesting that I'm up on both toes swinging in that picture.  Didn't realize I did that.

Pete, is it possible to post Fowler's plans?   I played there occasionally and found the course oddly disjointed -- as if part of it had been reorganized because of a freeway!
