Chance to work with the USGA?
« on: May 06, 2012, 08:08:41 AM »

Well, sort of. You would have two bosses, the USGA and Kemper Sports if you were the new superintendent at Chambers Bay.

Chambers Bay is looking for a new superintendent after Dave Wienecke resigned this week. I thought it was strange that this was newsworthy enough to make Tacoma Tribune.

Here is the article: Wanted: Man with Fescue Experience, http://www.thenewstribune.com/2012/05/06/2133532/wanted-man-with-fescue-experience.html

Would you take on the job with the US Open looming in 2015?
What are the pros and cons of the job?

The tag line from the first "Wayne's World" movie comes to mind..."you'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll hurl"  Taking a new course, with new agronomic needs through a major with the whole world watching sounds like a huge undertaking then factor in the micromanagement of the
U.S.G.A. and you have got your work cut out for ya.

The folks at Chambers Bay seem quite happy with the work Josh Lewis has been doing on the greens. I'm reading a lot into employee dynamics here, but I suspect this was almost inevitable. I certainly wouldn't read too much into this, and I don't think its a harbinger of any difficulties between Chambers Bay and the USGA.
