So can somebody please explain to me how Tillinghast, Colt, Allison and Thomas are not in the Hall of Fame but RTJ has been in it for 25 years?

Until the 1974 piece on Tillie for the Open program, no one femembered Tillie, or had really thought as much about architects as this website does.  But, RTJ was famous. It would seem to be a matter of timing, and perhaps a later bias against letting GCA's in, reserving more spots for golfers, writers, etc.

Who deserves a slot more?  The overlooked great AM player, women's players, or gca's?  I know what i think, but others apparently feel differently!

The World Golf Hall of Fame has become saturated with too many members. A lot of the true greats in golf don't take the World Golf Hall of Fame seriously anymore due to it's location in St Augustine (a historic city but not a world hotbed of golf history) and the less distinguished accomplishments of many recent inductees. In fact, the World Golf Village is a good 10 miles or so from the historic city of St Augustine, along I-95 in unincorporated St Johns County.

A far cry from the inductee's carriage rides through the streets of Pinehurst.

I'm sure Sandy Lyle and Lanny Wadkins and many others are some of the nicest guys in the world, and were very fine players, but they don't immediately come to mind in what I would envision golf's hallowed Hall of Fame to be. I've long-since quit worrying about who's in and not in the hall of fame......

By the way - according to golf writer Doug Ferguson, there were 83 members of the NFL H.O.F. at last summer's induction in Canton, and only 14 members of the World Golf H.O.F. last night in St. Augustine.

What is a "Hall of Fame"?  I know of a few where the problem is finding someone you can put in it each year so that you can sell tickets for the dinner and keep it going for another year.....Our local town Athletic HOF has that problem every year...

Tilly belongs in the GHF. Phil Young can expound on the reasons why given his course designs,  his two year tour during the Depression of courses coast to coast. His over 30 years of prolific golf writing and golf photography are whipped cream on top.

For what have you done lately,  he didn't need to do much. Check out Golf Magazine Top 100 US. Eleven (11) of his courses are in the Top 100. His last course design was in 1935! There have been over 12,000 courses built in the US over the past 77 years and he still has 11 in the Top 100.

My point is they are more concerned with the players that just turned 40 and major winners such as Sandy Lyle then some dead guys. 

Based on his work, Dan Jenkins should have been in years ago as well.

I'm not sure who the nominating committee is but perhaps they need to have a veterns committee like baseball who look for people that had a great impact prior to 1960?

That's may point above...the ODG's don't garner the attention to the HOF that names of the 40 year olds will....

The real injustice is that Warren Zevon is still missing from the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame.

I don't put a lot of stock in hall of fames, and especially the world golf hall. RTJ was a very good golf architect and a world class self-promoter. IMO he deserves to be in. You have to remember the WGHF is a relatively modern development (the 70s?) and the old dead architect's were, and are distant memory to most, unfortunately. I agree, it is sad those architects are not in the hall, but it has always been focused on the players.
