The big 3

Rose, Harrington and McDowell - one of them will prevail at St Geo.  McInroy will disappoint.  I can't see an American coming close.  JC

I'll take Jason Day plus Angel Cabrera as my longshot. Since you're picking three I'll add Rory. The US drought will continue.

That's an absolutely ridiculous statement.
I'll give you 50:1 ;) an American finishes top 5
......which is close
ridiculous

Harrington?  Have you guys been tweaking for the past 3 years?

What's wrong with you people? The big 3 are Nicklaus, Player, Palmer, and they will kick off the Masters together next year.

Do you think Rose is ready to win a major? Do you think Harrington's tweakings are ready for a major championship? McIlroy is my pick.

I agree with Mark, Jason Day has been up there at the last few majors and seems to have a big game temperament even if he is very slow ! Got to be a good each way bet at decent odds. My pick for on the nose would be Westwood. I think he will be seething after the Scottish Open, feeling he was hard done by and that will spur him on.

I was in William Hills today and Rory was 8/1 and Donald 10/1. Can't say those odds were tempting.

I'm going with "none of the above". I think another relative unknown will win. And I'll love it.

I was amazed to read that Harrington is now about 53 in the world...that blew my head off.

Oh and Quiros and Cink are my top two for the Open.

"Rose, Harrington and McDowell - one of them will prevail at St Geo."

After 2 rounds :

Rose - T45
Harrington - MC
McDowell - MC

Plus:

Westwood - MC
Donald - MC
Kuchar - MC
Poulter - MC
Watney - MC

I cannot think of any sport that goes less according to "form" than golf.

David T:

The game goes pretty well to form when you have truly great players near the peak of their careers.  Several Hall of Famers were perennial contenders at the Open, almost locks to finish in the top 10.

There is no dominant player at all now, but the world rankings still insist on there being a #1, #2, #3 etc.  They are just all too bunched together and interchangeable for it to mean anything.  You could make a lot of money betting the field against the top 10 players today.

Certainly there is now a bunching of top players at the top of the rankings, but the failure of so many of them to make the cut at Sandwich was - more than is usually the case - a function of how tee times aligned with capricious weather.

Wow, not a single one of the predictions in this thread came even remotely close to being halfway correct :)
