I wonder how long it has been since:

1)  Somebody makes the cut on the number and wins.
2)  Somebody makes the cut on the number and wins by four.

Just like Marty says, did you see McIlroy's swing on some of those shots?  Sheesh.  What balance and grace.

McIlroy becomes the first player since Chris Couch at New Orleans in 2006 to make the cut on the number and win the tournament.

The next few Euro Ryder Cup teams are going to be awfully tough.

The slow-mo analysis of his swing from behind, when he hit one of his back nine fairway bunker shots, looked astonishingly like Hogan, especially the way his held his follow-through. It looked like the famous Hy Peskin photo from Merion. I'm not saying McElroy will be the next Hogan, but his swing is a thing of beauty -- and it gets results.

I watched him hit range balls at Hazletine last summer. His girlfriend was seated on the grass about five feat from his bag. I don't know if that was Holly, but I don't think I'd ever seen a player's wife or girlfriend inside the ropes with him on the range.

I'll take the word of people who know him that he's a great guy, but it sounds as though the golf world is eager to put someone else on the same pedestal Tiger just fell from. We don't really know anything about what these guys do away from the golf course. I'll assume the best until I know otherwise, but aside from knowing that he doesn't mind practicing his swing with his girlfriend nearby, I have no basis to make any conclusions about his character.

Who is his caddie, certainly he should get some recognition for getting him through such a high pressure situation.

Faxon, Olazabal, and (most recently) Chris Couch made the cut on the number, then won.  Rory's caddy is J. P. Fitzgerald, who's also toted the bag for Els & McGinley.

The caddie didn't drop the bag once, and only threw up off camera-handled the pressure beautifully ;)

When I was in Northern Ireland 18 months ago, several members/caddies/people at bars/ at various places commented with great pride about young Rory. Some mentioned with awe the 61 he shot at Portrush as a mere lad. I can't imagine how crazy those folks are about this victory. Good on you Rory.

That was some of the funnest golf I've seen in a while... and he lipped out on 17 for the 62! :P That's just nuts, the smooth 7 iron out of the bunker to a couple feet... Congrats to Rory!!! ;D

Seems like a good time to bring this up.  Todays round was not as good as 61 at Portrush but pretty good.

A terrific round.  Let's hope he can string four together.  GMac also played quite well, I'd be thrilled to see him in contention for a back-to-back win.  THAT would be something.
