Their sponsors insist that the cap is o during interviews so their logo is shown on TV.  Maximize brand exposure

As to Rickie odd as the Puma logo is not displayed as well backwards I suspect as full on.

To be transparent I do not like the backwards cap look  but not something I could get all too excited about.

Its OK if you wear your hat indoors (aka the press tent) at Augusta, but its not OK if you wear your hat backwards!

Glad to see their traditions are consistently applied and unbending to the almighty dollar.

Seems like a cultural divide with no disrespect intended by Fowler. He does not seem like a rebel and I`m sure this won`t be a problem going forward at the Masters. It would be nice if he nixed this practice during all tournaments. I am not a fan of the backwards hat.

Were all of you reverse-gorro guys fans of the fist-pumping Tiger back in the late 1990s? In case you haven't noticed, the game needs a little juice right about now. If the worst thing that comes of Generation Z is backwards hats, then bring it on! I watched Fowler at the Walker and never saw an ounce of disrespect from him. Saw him at Porter Cup, too. Doubt he changed overnight.

Sorry Brent, but Fowler didn’t get an invite into anyone’s home, more like a 'Green Jacket' affair, and you should follow the 'instructions' on the 'invite'. But even if you look at it like an invite into someone's home, proper etiquette requires you to bow to the wishes of your host, like no smoking, or taking your shoes off at the door....and there are liberties you don't take as a guest, like giving yourself the grand tour of the house, or putting your feet up on the furniture, etc.,etc., etc..

You don't think they were being gracious? They basically weren't going to let him look like a fool during their 'show'. The Masters did the kid a favor, and to his credit, he was smart enough to follow their request....but let's be serious, there isn't a player on the planet, including Fowler, who doesn't know that the decorum of The Masters is nothing like the weekly run at other Tour events (like it or not).

The guys in green jackets get to boss people around one week a year and enjoy doing it. Fine, it's perk of having a place and an event that everyone wants to come to. But in this case they aren't doing anyone any favors except their own ridiculous egos.

If your host asks you to observe a rule of their house do you call them pompous asses and fascists?  It's a club rule, no backward hats on the property.

The club also doesn't allow a winner to be photographed wearing a hat while wearing the green jacket. Fowler said he would follow that custom but that Puma would want to see him wearing the hat and coat at the same time.

I'm perfectly capable of knowing that someone is acting a pompous ass without saying so. As can Mr. Fowler, apparently.

I'm not saying he should not have acceded to their demand. I'm saying that his choice of hat does not reflect badly on him as a person and that demanding he remove or change it does reflect badly on the club and the members, in my estimation.

We're not talking butt cracks showing, middle fingers gesturing or curse words written on a tee shirt here. We're talking about not just one grown person but an entire organization getting bent out of shape because of which way the bill of someone else's cap is pointing. That is so petty and childish as to be pitiful. But hey, if that's what they want to be known for maybe their mothers will be proud of them for it.

Your definition of pompous must be different than mine. Augusta is no different than many other clubs that have the same prohibition against wearing backward hats. Those folks aren't 'bent out of shape', they're just asking him to follow a rule, and asking someone to follow a rule is not arrogance, but thinking you are above it is. Happily, Fowler isn't that arrogant.

If you happened to wrangle a ticket to the Masters, walked in with your hat on backwards, and were asked to turn it around or else you'd have to leave - would you turn it around at your host's request or be so arrogant as to assume you were above the policy?

You seem to be very bent about this whole issue.  It is very simple.  Rickie Fowler is a guest at the club as it is an invitational tournament.  The Augusta National Golf Club is very traditional, as I'm sure you know.  They prefer a certain modicum of decorum in regards to dress, carriage, and respect.  Complicity in that regard seems easy, in my opinion.

If the facts above irk you or you think the whole issue to be petty and childish, I suggest you become a member and change them.  

In my opinion, wasting words debating it or lambasting it is as petty as the policy itself.  It is their tournament, their rules.

I'm not up on this controversy but wasn't a master's spokesman recently quoted about the changing nature of the sport as a justification for disfiguring hallowed ground.

It's pretty appropriate that PBS is currently running Burn's "Civil War" again. Jeff Davis went to his grave, still defending the position that the color of his skin made him superior.

I am not big on legislating culture or making judgments of people based on cloths and I have always been of the opinion that my home is your home.  However, not everybody sees things this way and if want to dance you have to follow the rules of the dance hall.  Sometimes we have to make choices which don't set well with our outlook on life.  Thankfully, most of the time those choices aren't so onerous to make.
