What a stunning vista - I'm undecided about how I feel about the Statue - it's so odd looking that it almost adds a bit of interest and gives you a bit of perspective on what you are looking out on to. I'm gonna say I would keep it there - I will be visiting next summer so may think differently then...

and all this time I was thinking Nicklaus and Rees Jones invented the elevated tee-box........
I happen to think this statue is the best looking of all posted in this thread-and the perfect setting doesn't hurt either.
Those first 10-11 original holes at Rosapenna are awesome-the place had a bit less charm last time I was there when the 12some of germans stole our trolleys that we had just paid for, then made a beeline to tee of ahead of us-thirty minutes ahead of their time)
I enjoyed it more the first time when there was one course and you paid in the bar down in town,Many courses will be returning to that model I fear(for them) shortly

One of the better ones that no one has mentioned thus far -- the statue of Geronimo behind the 18th green at Desert Mountain's unique and spectacular layout that bears the fierce / heroic Indian warrior's name. Sort of in the background but can be seen as you walk onto the green itself.

There's a good one at Apache Stronghold too, can't find a photo on the web.  If anyone has a photo...........

Do these qualify as Statues Dave?

My favourite "statues" are the ones at 15,16,17,18 at Cypress Point Club:
the natural Cypress "Statues" reminded me late on the evening I was there, of giant stautes guarding the magnificent Monterey layout, standing the test of time...I suppose they are sculptures, as are statues, they just seem the most appropriate. apologies for the quality of the photos, the light was fading fast...

As dull and unimaginative are the ones of Payne Stewart, Donald Ross and Richard Tufts back left of the 18th green at Pinehurst No. 2, they are tame compared to the artsy-farty modernist collection of statues at Isleworth in Orlando, Fla.

Oops, I thought this thread was about the Status of Golf Courses.   As for statues, I've yet to see one that I thought added aesthetically to the course's landscape...

 8) :D ;)

in looking at all the statues , perhaps the only one that looks good is the Easter Island like one at Varadero Cuba .  Putter Boy on the front lawn at Pinehurst works but on the golf course , nah ::)

Have you seen the one in the carpark at The Lakes ?

This is the one I was referencing above (as per their website)

It was commissioned by the R&A and remains on permanent display at The Lakes GC

Well, I prefer golf related statuary to be sublime and understated...with a hint of elegance.  Something that transports you away from the shrill cacophony of modern life and puts you in touch with the more noble instincts of mankind.
