Golf in Atlanta, Tuesday Nov. 2--cheap, fun day
« on: October 27, 2010, 03:01:54 PM »
I know it is a bit last minute but Mac Plumart and I are putting together a group for golf on Tuesday, November 2nd at Rivermont Golf and Country Club in Alpharetta, GA.  It is the course my family and I own and operate and we thought it may be a fun day for golf.

We have about ten guys now but would be happy to have more.

We are closed that day so we will have the course to ourselves.  The course is in excellent shape and we finished some work this fall and it will be a very fun and interesting day.  The forecast is for 72 degrees with a chance of afternoon showers.  We were hoping to tee off around 9:00 AM.  Michael Riley, the architect, is going to try and be there to explain all the crazy stuff going on in the greens and bunkers and answer any questions anyone may have.

The cost is pretty much a cart fee--$20.  Depending on the number of players, we will figure out food and beverage later but it will be simple and optional.  We have a great bar so the beer can flow all afternoon!!!

Please IM me or e-mail me at ccupit@rivermontcountryclub.com

Man, what a temptation!.  I can't take the day, and will be working until around 6:30 p.m. at that.  I hope the weather is great and that you have a great turnout.  Kind offer.

Phillip and others,

Friday is fine and later is even ok.  I know this is last minute so I understand getting a late "hall pass".

Mike,

Depending on numbers we will figure the food part out. If all else fails I can operate the frier and we have snickers bars :D

All,

We should be able to play and be done well before the rain hits. Obviously I'm biased but love it or hate it, there is more architecture to discuss here than 99% of what passes for golf in Atlanta!  Come play.

A great and generous offer Chris, thanks for the open invite. I won't be making the trip as the great state of Illinois needs me to vote early and often :) ;)

Man that's a great reason to come a runnin' Chris!  That reminds me, if I ever own my own golf course, I will do my damnedest to have the F&B side of it be a knock off of the old Kay's Ice Cream stores, with the wrap around counter and those bolted down, round red stools. Mini burgers, O rings and shakes....I like the deep fried snickers idea too!

I can't make it down Tuesday, but what a great offer, thank you!

I was lucky enough to play Rivermont this morning, and I can say that I enjoy the course more with each play.  It continues to mature from the 2006 (?) renovation and it's looking fantastic.  You guys in Atlanta should HAUL ASS to Rivermont, as should out of towners.
THE NEXT SEVEN:  Alfred E. Tupp Holmes Municipal Golf Course, Willi Plett's Sportspark and Driving Range, Peachtree, Par 56, Browns Mill, Cross Creek, Piedmont Driving Club

Chris and Mac,
Sounds like you have conceived a fun, relaxed day. I would be there in a heartbeat if it were not for the "tyranny of distance". Of course as the the Scots invented the culinary delight of a deep fried Mars bar (Snickers) as well as golf I reckon I would have fitted right in.
Have a good time.

Excuse the bump but I wanted to make sure any weekend "viewers" had a chance to join us at the last minute.

Last bump, I promise, for golf tomorrow.

We will try and get people to arrive around 8:30.  We will have a small continental breakfast, count heads, pair up and go play around 9:00ish.  The rain should be no problem until later in the afternoon by which time we should be enjoying some food and adult beverages :)

Again, cost is $20 for the golf and continental breakfast.

website is www.rivermontcountryclub.com in case anyone needs directions.

Gents,

If you are close to ATL, do this. Rivermont is super fun and Chris is a good dude.

It will be well worth your time.

If only Minneapolis was a little closer to Atlanta. I would be all over this.

Many thanks to Chris for hosting the group for a great day yesterday at Rivermont, and to Mike Riley for sharing some of his thoughts on the renovation work.  Too busy catching up on work to post detailed thoughts now, but the two things that jump out at me about Rivermont are the wonderful green complexes (cannot think of any better in the Atlanta area) and that it just feels like a great members' club (excellent golf, low key atmosphere, and affordable).  If you live in the area and have not made it out to Rivermont, you should definitely do so.
