Common Ground, October 9-10
« on: September 28, 2010, 11:27:32 AM »
Due to some last minute cancellations, it appears we will have room for two or three additional players in the field of 64 for our annual Renaissance Cup event, the weekend after next.  The entry fee is a $ 100 check to the Eisenhower-Evans Scholars Foundation in lieu of the green fees at Common Ground.

Anyone interested in playing should site mail me here by the end of today.  The invite will not necessarily be first come first served, but based on my prerogative, so be sure to tell me why I should pick you.

Bumping, hoping Doug Wright will see it.

Tom,

Bad timing for me; otherwise, I'd be groveling.

Great course, great cause.

Having very much enjoyed my round out there this past July I really wish I could go. Kudos to anyone that gets to play in the Cup!
Did you know World Woods has the best burger I've ever had in my entire life? I'm planning a trip back just for another one between rounds.

Pardon my ignorance Tom, but what is your Renaissance Cup all about? Format?

Jim,

It's just our annual company golf event, played on a different one of our courses each year.  Two days of nine hole, better ball matches played at scratch, though only 30 to 50 percent of the entrants have any thought of winning.  64 players, including all of my crew and a bunch of clients, friends, and fellow travelers in the golf business.  And you just never know who will show up to play ... We've had some pretty fun players over the years.

Tom,
Would you list the past venues, years and some winners?

Mike,

I don't know if the trophy is in the office or already on it's way to Denver.  I will look tomorrow.  It made a cameo in THE CLOSER on TNT a couple of years ago after Michael Robin and his partner Tim Wood won at Rock Creek.  (They repeated last year at The Renaissance Club in Scotland after Tim missed the cut at Turnberry the week prior.)

It has been played overseas at Cape Kidnappers, too, and at most of our U.S. courses.  Mike Keiser and Jimmy Dunne won it in NZ, beating Michael Clayton and me among others.  Al Geiberger played in the final match at Stone Eagle, but lost to Jim O'Neal and Max Caulkins.  There are several other club professionals and one former Masters champ on the trophy, too.  Eric Iverson is the only RGD guy on there, he won with Tom McCarthy a few years back at Stonewall.
