Final Bump--Big Day is Tomorrow--Cancer Fund Raiser
« on: April 20, 2010, 07:55:22 AM »
This thread is not about the architectural integrity of William Harries' Brookfield Country Club in Clarence, NY.  The club hosted the 1985 USGA National Junior, won by Charlie Rymer.  This thread is about a fund raiser in which I have the honor of participating, called Chip In For Carly's Club.  It will be held in August and demands that I play 100 holes in one day.  I did it a few years back, albeit on a less-demanding course.  If you are interested in learning more, pledging, or forwarding the link to others who might be interested, I am grateful.  Here it is:

http://giving.roswellpark.org/Page.aspx?pid=261&frsid=17227

Thanks for your time and consideration.  Back to the GCA!

UPDATE:  after two days of fund raising, we sit at $260, putting the quest at roughly 5% of the goal.  It's going to be a challenge, as my "clients" are high school students.  Imagine how it would look if I shook them down for lunch money in the hall!  We'll see how well I can work the networks.

No names mentioned, but one of our own just holed out from 200 yards with a $100 donation.  Thanks to him (whoops, that gave it away) and here's hoping with fingers crossed that some other GCA folks have a bit of spare change around to make my 100-hole marathon a little bit easier.

Day three and the GCA crowd continues to amaze me.  Thanks for the additional donations on day two (http://giving.roswellpark.org/Page.aspx?pid=261&frsid=17227).

One word of caution...one of our brethren had trouble figuring out which button to press in order to donate...be careful, be cautious, use the cheater line if you must, but know that I thank you, as do the folks at Roswell Park C.I.

Words escape me...we cracked the 20% goal of $5000, thanks in no small part to the GCA cadre.  Sadly, though, the machine malfunctioned again and another of our brethren has a donation floating in the cyberspace.  I guess the basic explanation would be, the "Pledge Now" button was disguised in the upper-right corner...that's the button you want to click.

Here's the link again:  http://giving.roswellpark.org/Page.aspx?pid=261&frsid=17227

Thanks for forwarding, thanks for reading, thanks for sharing your stories about wins and losses vs. cancer and thanks for participating.

It's 7:45 on a Monday night and we stand at somewhere around 28%.  If they find the two donations from GCA that mysteriously vanished, we might be at 33% by morning, closing in on 40%.

I do want to thank all of you who have forwarded the link on to your friends and colleagues.  The big hurdle is the early peak, hitting 40 to 50% of the goal within two weeks, then struggling the rest of the way.  Constant contact is a great help.

Once again, here's the link for 100 holes of golf to raise money for cancer research:

Thanks for the bump, Eric.  Here's where we are...$1290 officially, one missing big-ass donation and one pledge will bring us to $1890 currently.  That will be about 40% of the way to the $5K goal.  I cannot express my gratitude to all the GCA folks who have contributed money.  It will make the 108 holes (6 full rounds) that much easier.

Here's the link again, for your own personal use or to pass it on:  http://giving.roswellpark.org/Page.aspx?pid=261&frsid=17227

WOW is all I can say...the textbook company Vista Higher Learning just donated 10% of my state goal to the cause, bringing us close to the halfway mark.  I forget how generous individuals and groups of individuals can be.  I'll be in NYC this weekend for our son's college graduation, but will hit the fundraising trail again on Tuesday with vigor.

Update:  http://giving.roswellpark.org/Page.aspx?pid=261&frsid=17227 continues to be the home page for donations and GCA is downright generous...give yourselves a slap on the back, but not a three-feet putt.

Here's a piece that one of the local writers did on The Quest:  http://www.buffalonews.com/2010/05/16/1052552/dicesare-montesano-tees-it-up.html

Nearly 60% of the way to the goal.  Thanks for spreading the word to all, far and near.

El Bumpo

We blew the doors off the initial goal of $5000, about 32 days after we started.  A large part of that is due to GCA denizens, so thanks to all of you.

We have re-established the goal at $6000, so if you have know of anyone who might be interested in supporting the cause, here's the link again:  http://giving.roswellpark.org/Page.aspx?pid=261&frsid=17227

Mac,

Even better...my best buddy growing up as a kid, from next door.  Way better than a Boston Celtic, although I do love the green.  Thanks for your support...I calculated that GCA has given more than 25% of the donations and am hoping that the trend continues...here is the link again:  http://giving.roswellpark.org/Page.aspx?pid=261&frsid=17227

Major Bump...Thanks to GCA, I was the first of the 15 participants to hit the initial goal, so I raised it 20%.  I've worked out each of the past fifteen days, logging over 30 miles running and hitting the gym for 45 minute workouts on days that I didn't run.  Thanks for passing the information on to whomever might be interested in supporting the cause.  I'll be thinking of you swells on each and every shot, each and every hole, that hot August day.

August 30 is just around the corner.  Ronald, how is the preparation going for your golfathon?  Any 50 hole days under your belt to prepare for the 100 hole day?

Thanks, Eric.  Nope, that's not how I'm training...I'm running, working out, watching my food intake and stocking up on water!  I have a NYS mid-amateur qualifier a few days before the big day, so I don't want to injure myself for that.

Even though I hit my personal goal and then some, the overall efforts of the team are a little behind schedule, SOOOOO.....

If anyone has any spare cash floating about (you've seen it before)
