Thanks Michael for your feedback. I agree the vastness of the fairways, and minimal movement of quite few greens you speak of, probably negates for some the need to take a caddie. The high geens fee can't help either, as taking a caddie on top makes for a pricey day! To be fair, the wind can fairly scream there, so care was surely taken not have it to severe.
I rode/walked the ground in the early days of construction.  I've not played it yet, but it seems as though they could have gotten a bit more intrigue and test out of that ground, but opted for not beating up the high-end duffer. Well, their team spent a lot of time, talent and money on that project, I hope it delivers for them.

Cheers,

Michael.

Maybe I will appreciate the Gailes more (or less) once I do finally get over the pond to play golf in the UK. As of yet, I cannot draw comparisons to any UK courses, and pictures don't count.

The Gailes isn't a bad course/design, it just doesn't get it done for me. Out of the 310 courses I have played, it barely cracks my top 75. Maybbe shoehorned was too strong of a term for Gailes. BUT, it still feels forced there.
Best Played So Far This Season:
Crystal Downs CC (MI), The Bridge (NY), Canterbury GC (OH), Lakota Links (CO), Montauk Downs (NY), Sedge Valley (WI)

If you dislike The Gailes you will not be too happy with a good number of the courses in the UK... unless you play the ones built by Americans!  ;D

I'm duly impressed with your breadth of course knowledge. All I can say is that I don't think one should take Cabernet Sauvignon recommendations from a guy who has never tasted red wine.
