Is Wolf Creek (Ponoka AB) a revolutionary design
« on: August 26, 2010, 08:45:29 PM »
I played Rod Whitman's Wolf Creek two days ago and after the round I went:

considering that the course was built in 1985... It seems like it was completely the opposite of the trend that was going on in those years.

The course has some influence of Pete Dye, railroad ties, pot bunkers and big waste areas...

But it also have :
great bunkerless hole (12th)
runaway greens
a intro to a rugged look
low profile greens and surrounds

Were there other courses of that era done with those characteristics...

any way it's a great course

 8)  is the sign still there that reads: "Where Scotland meets Canada"  ?

did you play all 27?

were you playing 25 years ago?

Philippe:

I roomed with Rod in Denver for about a month back in 1985, just after he'd built Wolf Creek, when he was working on Glenmoor for the Dyes.  He must have showed me 100 snapshots of his golf course.  God he would have loved to have this forum to show it off [if he could have figured out how to use it!].

Alas, I have still never been to Alberta to see for myself.
