Constellation Energy, Golf Galaxy, Telos Corporation and OMNITEC Solutions, Inc. to provide all spectators complimentary grounds tickets to 2010 Senior Players Championship
Event is first modern major championship to offer complimentary admission
Potomac, MD (August 9, 2010) - The 2010 Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship today announced that through the support of several corporate sponsors, complimentary tickets to the tournament grounds will be provided to all spectators for the 2010 event. The Champions Tour’s final major championship of 2010 is scheduled for October 5-10 at newly renovated TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm in Potomac, MD. This is the first modern major championship on any of the U.S. professional golf tours to offer complimentary admission to the tournament grounds all week for every fan.
In addition to the on-going support from Constellation Energy, the event’s title sponsor, Golf Galaxy (Friday’s Second Round), the Telos Corporation (Saturday’s Third Round) and OMNITEC Solutions, Inc. (Sunday’s Final Round) have all stepped up to sponsor the complimentary admission program for one Championship Round during the 72-hole event. Each sponsor will receive on-site exposure including signage and video board content. While tournament officials are continuing their efforts to secure a fourth sponsor for Thursday’s round, they are committed to offering complimentary grounds tickets to spectators all week long, including the Practice Round on Tuesday and the Accenture Championship Pro-Am on Wednesday.
“This year’s Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship brings with it a patriotic theme and will honor our nation’s military as the event moves to our nation’s capital. What better way to enhance this celebration than to provide complimentary grounds admission to all spectators,” said tournament Executive Director Steve Schoenfeld. “We are working diligently to find a fourth sponsor to step up to support the complimentary grounds admission program to all spectators for Thursday.”
“We’re excited that this special promotion will allow golf fans in the DC area to be treated to the very best the Champions Tour has to offer at this year's Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship,” said Mike Stevens, Champions Tour president. “Similar type promotions had been done at other Champions Tour events and have been met with tremendous success in increasing attendance, raising awareness of the Champions Tour and positively impacting the tournament's charitable contribution.”
For spectators who are interested in a hospitality experience at the Championship, individual tickets to two venues are now on sale. The AREVA Championship Club offers an open-air tented facility overlooking the 16th green and 17th tee with table as well as tip-down tiered seating. An upgraded menu and full bar are available for additional purchase. A Thursday-Sunday pass to the AREVA Championship Club is $75. A Thursday-Sunday pass to the TPC Potomac Clubhouse is available for $125 where spectators can enjoy an exceptional buffet and full bar for additional purchase as they watch the action unfold from the patio overlooking the 18th green.
To date, players that have committed to compete in the Championship include Defending Champion Jay Haas, World Golf Hall of Fame members Tom Watson, Nick Price and Hale Irwin, as well as major champions Jeff Sluman and Craig Stadler. This year’s site, TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm, which hosted a PGA TOUR event from 1987 2004 and 2006, was recently named No. 12 on Golfweek’s list of the “Best New Courses for 2009.” Current Champions Tour players who won PGA TOUR events at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm include World Golf Hall of Fame member Tom Kite (1987), Morris Hatalsky (1988), Gil Morgan (1990) Bill Glasson (1992).
