My family got me HD for my 60th;

OMG.

Mayday, for your 61st ask for HD radio to replace that 8-track player in your car.  Or did you upgrade to a cassette player when you hit the big 5-0?  ;)

"Since I have played TOC I can safely say that if you are watching in HD then you can certainly comment. ( My family got me HD for my 60th; I am watching from my couch and feel like I am there.)"

Mayday:

Is that right? I have an HD TV here in the barn office (haven't had it all that long) and even though I have never seen TOC in person I must say that the ground there sure did look quite different to me this time with an HD TV than I remember it in the past on TV. That is just some truly amazing ground for golf on that course throughout.

 Joe,

Thanks for the idea; I'll pass it on to my kids. I will miss my tape deck though ;D

  Tom,

I believe they had some incredible ground level shots.

I'm not sure one has to play a course, but certainly one should see it.

Around these parts we often get commentary posing as expert opinion on courses where the self-appointed guru has never even seen the course or property in three dimensions.   That too me is absurd.

I do think folks can comment on course from television, or from pictures, and I'd hesitate to ever try to stifle those commentaries, as long as they are approached from the standpoint of the caveat that, "from tv (or the pictures posted here) the course seems to be X....etc.".

But when someone posts a drawing map of a course, or better yet, an aerial of the course from 10,000 feet in the air, and then purport to tell us why this was or wasn't a good golf course, or more ridiculously, attempt to compare it to another course they've never seen, then I think we have to just call bullshit.

Hogwash.  Like a, very wise, man once said:

I can get a good look at a T-bone by sticking my head up a bull's ass; but, I'd rather take the butcher's word for it.
I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Excellent spellers usually lack any vision or common sense.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.

JC,

Not sure I understand your point.

You wouldn't see much as I'd imagine it would be quite dark in there.

How is that comparison even remotely analogous?  ;)  ;D

Mike,

You can bring your own interpretation to the table.  I'm just the messenger.

Mike

I am not bsure what a self appointed guru is.  One can either give an opinion time or not.  Its down to the audience to decide if teh "guru" is worthy - no?

Sean,

Fair point.

But we talk about a lot of obscurities in here, and I'm probably guilty of sometimes presenting opinion as fact, as well, but I usually try to do it based on personal knowledge of having been there when I do.
