Very cool. I'm getting a Phantom this summer. Any advice? Did you use a GoPro mounted to the drone for that shot?
This is the Phantom 2 Vision+. It has its own GoPro-like camera built in, pre-assembled, and ready to fly. The GoPro versions require more work, and more third-party parts (especially if you want live first-person, which you definitely do). I think the GoPro Hero 3+ will give better video than mine, but mine does raw stills, which turn out a bit better if you know how to process them with a program like Lightroom.
The Phantoms are remarkably easy to fly; my 8- and 10-year-olds had no trouble taking off, maneuvering, and landing the first day. The on-board computer does pretty much everything; if you take your hands off the controls, it holds the drone at its position, height, and orientation. It will adjust to the wind; I've flown it in 20 MPH winds with no problem. And if you fly out of range, it will return home and land.
