Golf at/near the Breakers in FL
« on: July 08, 2010, 11:33:07 AM »
I'm attending a wedding next weekend at the Breakers in Palm Beach, FL.

I have one round with the wedding party at the Ocean course adjacent to the hotel, and I am looking for a second round with three family members.

Is the Rees Jones Breakers course worth it for round 2, or am I better served going somewhere else?

It would probably have to be within 30-45 mins...I've thought about seeing what all the controversy is about at the North Palm Beach muni, the one Nicklaus Design redid...

Anyone have any ideas?  My FL golf knowledge is not deep...
So I jump ship in Hong Kong....

I enjoy NPBCC. Its a fun track with some really cool holes, although I dont know what kinda condition it is in right now.

What day are you looking to play?

It would be the Sat. AM (7/17) shift, so I'd be at the mercy of the long round...but the wedding isn't until like 7PM.
So I jump ship in Hong Kong....

Other options are the newly refurbished West Palm Beach GC or Roy Case's Park Ridge GC, a "brownfield" course built on a former landfill in Lake Worth. Park Ridge is unusual for South Florida in that there is some elevation and no housing. It's also a 6-6-6 routing.

Muni-wise, I think West Palm Beach is just as good as North Palm Beach.  Park Ridge is a notch below those IMO.

Brad:

The R. Jones Breakers course isn't that good IMO. From what I remember it was really squeezed into the property and isn't very interesting. You're better off looking somewhere else for a round. I haven't played the North Palm Beach muni but friends have played it and really liked it.

Thanks guys...just what I was looking for.

Look like my best options are NPB, WPB, or PR.
So I jump ship in Hong Kong....

North Palm Beach Municipal.   Several threads on it in the archives.

I would stick with the WPB course as they did a nice job with the renovation other than using the wrong sand in the waste areas.  Park Ridge is okay but is often in questionable shape.  The NPB course is overpriced in season - I don't know what it's at now.  Another course to consider is the Links at Madison Green which I have always enjoyed and has some really challenging and interesting holes.
