Quick Question - Ballyneal
« on: August 09, 2010, 07:05:30 PM »
I was reading somewhere that Ballyneal has no tees, just teeing off areas on each hole.  It said that this was because the course was meant primarily for matches and therefore as long as both participants teed off from the same location.....

does this mean that the course has no slope/rating and scores there could not be posted towards ones handicap?

Thanks,

Brian

That is correct. There is no slope or rating for the course. The scorecard gives you a range of distances (e.g. 350-420).

Since it is mostly national members keeping handicap there is no real priority.

Brian, typically the winner of the last hole picks the tee for the hole. In club tournaments, the club puts out turtle tee markers. Interestingly, the tees not only give a range of yardages but also give a broad range angles.

Thanks Richard (Go BLue!)/Mike.

I like the winner of the hole picking the next tee concept, very cool.

Don't get mad at me, this is a joke....

I guess the "USGA Rules Govern All Play" line isn't on the scorecard ;)

PS - I think it's a fantastic idea :)

It sounds like a good game of HORSE in the driveway.  I love it!

I believe Friar's Head places no tee markers as well.

Dan: I just 'happen' to have a score card here in front of me which reads on the back:

USGA rules govern all play
There is no out of bounds  play ball as you find it
the fescue sward is ever evolving
repiar all pitch marks and replace all divots

And also this really cool idea that I hadn't seen before of the two 'slots' cut into the back 'page' of the card, allowing to insert a pencil 8)

I recall discussing this with some of the guys - Jaeger was it you? - re the fescue sward is ever evolving.
- I guess this means that the thru the green fescue surface will continue to expand allowing for wider angles of play?? :-\
