Bear Mountain - Valley Course
« on: June 16, 2010, 07:14:54 PM »
Played both courses at Bear Mountain this past February, while I didn't care for the Mountain course I really enjoyed the Valley course. It was a lot more playable and not as "extreme" as the Mountain course. The greens were a lot of fun. Not sure how much, if any Jack was involved. Curious on what GCA'ers think of the greens?

All the pictures are of the Valley course.

Bear Mountain where?

The third to the last picture is interesting ... you can bounce it in from the left side but only if you aim toward a moss-covered boulder.  But, it's probably a wedge shot approach.

Looks very interesting - any chance the Telus skins will be on TV in the States?

I'll be there next week.
We play one of them Sunday for a pro-am.

The skins is being played at bear mountain Monday and Tuesday.

I'm also looking forward to Colwood and Victoria while I'm out there.

I believe it's only broadcast on TSN

The Valley Course looks like a lot of fun, the greens look very interesting.  Vancouver Island has some really great golf courses.  I recently played Royal Colwood and Victoria Golf Club.  Colwood has some greens that are terrifying if they are stimping over about 9 feet.  Victoria Golf Club is one of the most amazing settings for golf anywhere, and Jeff Mingay is doing some fantastic bunker renovations there as well.

I worked out there last year and really grew to dislike the Valley Course after a few months.  The Valley has some really cool holes out there but also some bad ones.  Some of the greens are really silly that don't set up well for the approach shot.  It's a really great setting though but I some of the greens are out of control.

Ryan,

I'm not sure what your handicap is but do you think it's more playable than the Mountain?  That's the way we advertised it but I played a lot of rounds with 10-20 caps out there and they really struggled on the tight holes and around the greens.  That I think the course plays a lot tighter in spots.

Ian,

Check your email or PM, I would like to get together and chat for a bit while you're out and if you have some free time.
