I would say that if you are a GCA member than you life is better than many of the people around you. You most likly have the resources to live an enriched life that others cannot. Most on here have traveled the globe and there own countries playing the most revered courses. Often times together. This should lead to a sense of fraturnity and brotherhood. Dispite ocassional hostilities we should always remember we are truly blessed individuals. I'm thankful to have met several gentelmen golfers on this site and hope to meet more. As a member on this site I have had the oppertunity to golf some places I never thought I had a chance to golf, in less than two years on the site. We should treasure this site and each other more.

Below is a photo of a child in the Dominican Republic that I met when spending time with my caddy after a round of golf there. I gave the boy a rubber baseball and he ran home and got his "baseball glove". Please note his glove. What do we have to complain about in our own lives, let alone on GCA? Just a little something to think about.

Thanks, Anthony, for some much needed perspective. The boy's smile says it all.

He's doing better than me, Anthony - I don't even own a baseball glove.

I had a similar experience walking through a small village in Indonesia.  All the kids lined up for their turn to play with a badminton set someone had gotten as a gift. Of course, I had just flown in from the US, after having to buy two Play Stations for my two kids, because they couldn't share the one they had even for five minutes.

And, of course, the new golf course development wiped that happy little village off the map.

I needed this reminder! We really are blessed by a group of people who share a common passion, and to have the extra time in our lives to learn more about it. Great post, Anthony!

Maybe he will be the next Vlad Gurerro. Ever hear the story about how, like many in the DR, his first baseball glove was a milk carton.

Great post. But we could wipe the smile off his face by telling him he may have to play for the Rangers just like Vlad.

Andy, great post.  I'm relatively new to this discussion board (since March), but I can honestly say that I have been exposed to more insightful information regarding GCA in the past 3 months than my previous 19 years reading, and toying with the art.  I look forward to future discussions, learning more about this incredible game / sport, and making friends.  This discussion board provides a continuous platform to educate, participate, and network in a subject we are all passionate about!  I only wish I found it sooner.

Mike:  I'm an Orioles fan (unfortunately), and would gladly swap teams, or even Vlad, with you at this point.  I'm not sure if my rapidly receding hairline is a result of stress from work, or my teams's lack of performance lately  ???

Nick,at least you don't have to watch them in an oven all summer at a suburban stadium in the middle of urban sprawl. The Rangers can be summed up as follows:wore blue for years and never made playoffs;switched to red;made playoffs;switched back to blue;never make playoffs. Also, manage to act like small market team in middle of fourth largest metro with no competition for hundreds of miles.Thank goodness for the occasional labor difficulties baseball suffers. That is about the only bright spot.

What? A milk carton?!

How the hell does a milk carton help anybody catch a baseball?

What was his first bat? A piece of old rope?
