Battle of the Republic....Hole 1
« on: February 17, 2010, 11:44:59 AM »

The top ranked Carribean course has long been Teeth of the Dog. Opened in 1971 in The Domincan Republic by Pete Dye it is consistanty in the Top 40 in the world. But Punta Espada opened in 2007 and has challenged the top spot. Built by Jack Niclaus it his higher rated by some. What follows will be a hole by hole comparison.

  Teeh of the Dog

  Generous fairway

  Tricky up and downs

  Punta Espada

  Elevated tee on the opener

Cut to the chase amigo.  Anyone who has been to the DR knows who the real winner is down there...

Eric,

On my only trip the the DR, my one buddy tried to drink every Presidente in the country!!  ;D

Anthony,

After looking at the photo behind #1 green at T Dog, I found that bunker to be very out of place.....until I realized that it was the cart path! :P  ???  ;D

Keep the photos coming

What is the elevation change at Punta Espada?

What makes it better than your typical Florida oceanfront course?

While I believe TOTD to be somewhat overrated I find it rather difficult to support Punta Espada as the course that would supplant Teeth as THE standard in the Caribbean.

JB,

The house we stayed in probably had close to every Presidente in the country in this crazy huge commercial glass cooler.  My brother in law and I tried to drink them all but every morning they'd fill it back up to the edge of the shelves.  Paradise!

Anthony, come play our Canouan Island Golf Club, it's a real course with spectacular natural views.  We even have a par three that you can play from 305 yards!  It's downhill.
Hope your family are well, keep instigating.
