Bring Back The Sandy Mound

Phil McDade included the attached photograph in a current thread on a Benelow 9-holer in Wisconson, noting that the sandy mound is actually a new tee under construction.



My first thought - what a cool hazard!

In my mind, this pile of sand would make for a very attractive, effective, low-maintenance hazard.  Why is this element not utilized today?

I don't think they have wind in Wisconsin.

There is one on the left of the landing area on the 6th (Long) and one just short of the green on the 17th at Old Macdonald. If I remember right they are creations of Brian Slawnick and are super cool.

While these are not sandy mounds - they are certainly examples of a convex bunker - which I think is your point.
