A really nice HD video of Ballyneal:  http://punchbowlgolf.com/2009/03/ballyneal/

I honestly had no idea how wonderful Ballyneal was until I saw this video.  Stunning!

Dan, I actually have a little video of BallyNeal myself.  Unfortunately, I haven't gotten around to learning how to download it to a format to post on U-tube or whereever.  ::)   It is as good as it looks on the videos of Punchbowl.  They have a nice web page.  I think that is how golf photography or visual sharing is going to get better as the years go by.  So, maybe I'll try to learn how in the upcoming weeks or months.  It would be cool to see more videos posted on GCA.com.  With the mini size cams they have now, it isn't such a burden to slip a cam in your golf bag, and pull it out on tees and do a zoom down the FW and pan back and forth for about 15-20 seconds per hole.  We'd really get a much better idea of the architecture that way, it seems to me.
No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.

Dan,

Thanks for posting the video, very nice indeed.  Even that video doesn't do the place the justice it deserves as the sweeping views and sand hills go on for miles...its just epic.  And the course hugs the land so well I wouldn't have the 1st clue where any of the dirt/sand was moved. In my opinion,  it really is golf as it was meant to be..

I had heard all about it here, but never in my wildest imagination thought it'd be what it is.

When I drove from NY to Oregon for my job, I actually stayed in a hotel near the junction of I-76 and I-80.  Who knew that this area would spawn something like this.

Does it play as good as it looks?

The video does not do it justice. It is a very spiritual golf experience.

Thank you Rupert for the courage to put Ballyneal together.

RJ- Thanks for nice words about the site. Video is about as easy to incorporate into a round as photos, just hope that the wind is not blowing. I try to mix in some still photos with a little Ken Burns affect so that people don't get too jostled by the hand held. I have recently purchased a mono-pod to help reduce the instability.

Ballyneal is truly a wonderful place and the video does not do it justice. But it does give a little of the flavor.

I am not sure if you are a Mac user or not, however, the new version of iLife 2009 has video image stabilization software incorporated into iMovie.  It is very effective at minimizing camera wobble.  Additionally, you can turn down the original audio to minimize the wind sounds.

Oh yes!

I haven't played nearly the number of "great" courses that many on this site have played. But for whatever it is worth, Ballyneal is the only course I've ever played that I mention in the same breath as Shinnecock.

Here is where my lack of writing skill comes into play. . .
While Gib P and a number of other brilliant writers on GCA.com use the English language to convey their feelings with skill and precsision, I go with the sledgehammer . . .

Ballyneal is friggin amazing!!!!!

Went to their website and concluded this is a private club. Do they accept guest play (unaccompanied)?

Matt-
Thanks for the advice. I am a mac user but have not upgraded to Leopard, so I don't have imovie '09. I use FCE and there unfortunately is no good cheap, image stabilizer for it. As for the wind, I have tried to use a few of the audio filters but have not found any that I think work well without changing the timber of the person's voice. Plus, for some places the wind adds a little ambience.

Dan-
Ballyneal is indeed private, but not in a stuffy, restricted way. I advise a phone call to the club. Definitely worth the trip.
