SPDB,
I"d describe # 18 at Friar's Head as being more than moderately challenging.
While the fairway may be wide in the DZ, balls hit left are DEAD. And, the angle of the hole, as you stand on the tee, can create an uncomfortable feeling.
Balls hit right have a long approach to a small green with disaster lurking nearby.
Approach shots hit left are GONE.
I find it a demanding hole irrespective of the wind direction.
I find # 18 at Friar's Head to be a difficult finishing hole.
I'd classify # 18 at Piping Rock as moderately challenging.
# 1 at Friar's Head isn't as benign as some indicate.
Especially when hole locations are toward the front of the green.
The approach shot, though relatively short, is dramatically uphill and the ball has to come to rest on the same plateau as the hole otherwise putting becomes a real challenge.
# 1 is certainly more benign than # 18, but, it's no pushover.
