Weekend miniquiz no. 42: TWO Ryder Cup Captain Club?
« on: January 08, 2009, 07:30:10 PM »
RIGHT!

NO GOOGLING, WIKIPEDIA-ING, cheatin', foozlin', dropping balls from your pocket or otherwise cheatin'. Especially you goshdarned uppity colonials...

Can you name the ONLY club to have ever produced TWO Ryder Cup Captains?

Fabulous prize for the winner - but only if you can prove ya didnae cheat!

Only Clue: As a 16 year old, I went here for a job as an assistant pro. If I'd got the job, boy my life would have been waaay different...maybe.

Sam,
good 'K'eltic shout, but not correct. The FBD is a Scot. I only had to take a pretty short bus ride to my interview with the Pro.
NEXT!
Brian,
If so, then I am such a stoopid! Please let it run for a moment. Did I really tell this one before? Maybe it's time for an FBD sabbatical....

I am guessing Eric Brown is part of the equation. I feel like a real golf nerd right now, I will not go find a bottle of whiskey to watch the Sooners. With any luck I will drink tequila afterwards!!!!

Marty,

Did you actually interview at Glen Garden Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas?!?  That would of course be the club that produced Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson.

Are you saying these guys had to be members??

I know! I know!

I think this has been mentioned on here before, although I suspect I read it somewhere else first.
2014 to date: not actually played anywhere yet!
Still to come: Hollins Hall; Ripon City; Shipley; Perranporth; St Enodoc

I know, too, but again, only because this is a repeat question.  Have you been drinking the green malts again Marty?

He's talking about European captains. Or probably the GB&I days. Not that I'm bragging but Austin Country Club and Champions Golf Club also have multiple Ryder Cup captains.

Just sayin.......

Anytime, whenever possible I like to remind people that though Texas doesn't have the best courses we have the best players.

Again, just sayin.......

Do you ever post thinking "Have I said this before?"
I meant Europe. (I may even have meant GB&I!!!!) ;)

And here I thought Bobby Jones was from Georgia, Jack Nicklaus from Ohio, and Tiger Woods from California. Good to know they're Texans. ;)

FBD,
You forgot to add that a third Ryder Cup captain holds the course record.

And, for the record, I cannot find where you previously posted this on GCA.
by use of the GCA search function.

Maybe I owe FBD an apology .

It looks like it was Mr Rowlison that gave the answer to this before , all of 4 years ago .

I just thought we had discussed this along with the snakebites at Caesar's  ;)
