Judge not lest ye be judged…
« on: December 12, 2008, 09:34:54 AM »
… is not the motto of the armchair architecture contest. In fact it’s encouraged!

In an attempt to expand the judging base for our armchair architecture contest, I decided to post a separate thread. Since I know that modesty often prevents qualified folks from speaking up, I’d like to request nominations. If you know someone who should be helping judge our contest, feel free to post their name here. Please don’t make me beg! We have one judge already (Yannick Pilon), but I would prefer not to force him to go it alone if possible.

So, let’s see some names, if nothing else, it will be your chance to recognize your compatriots’ expertise. It is not necessary that the person(s) work in the industry, only that they are well-versed in the art of course design.

Thanks,

Charlie

PS here is a link to the thread for those interested. http://golfclubatlas.com/forum/index.php/topic,37717.0.html

A Supreme Court sized panel of

1- Mike Nuzzo
2- Jeff Brauer
3- Matt Ward
4- David Schmidt
5- Ron Farris
6- Rich Goodale
7- Ian Andrew
8- Mike Cirba
9- Tommy Naccarato (being the Sandra Day O'Conner swing vote)

There are certainly others, but they post here so infrequently I doubt they could find the time...

You think I could get all these guys through the Congressional nomination hearings?  Or do they all have too much dirty laundry  ;D

Chip:

Those of us who post frequently and were NOT included there - especially given the inclusion of yahoos like Ward, Schmidt, Goodale, Cirba - will try not to take offense at that.  They are "well-versed in the art of course design" ?  Mackenzie is rolling in his grave....

I say leave it to those in the business.

Huck, I typed you name in near the top (at the top actually) and finally said, Tom is simply too nice to be critical of anyone's attempt at armchair architecture.  I am still looking for a spot to put you in this process...maybe editor of the report that comes out of the evaluation ;D

That's cool of you Chip, but my intent was not to lobby for my own inclusion, but rather to utterly cryit downe those not in the business who you DID included.

I am nice yes, but a jerk too.

In two days I will send PMs to those nominated requesting their assistance in the judging, provided they have not already replied to this thread in either the affirmative or negative.

I'll also go OT here and ask for further suggestions as to the prizes for the contest. I'll be bumping the other thread with some preliminary ideas for rules etc.

I don't believe any of this modern-day, mamby-pamby crapola about not judging others because we're all the same ... and it's not our position to pass judgment ... and we don't know what it's like to be in their position ... and there but for the grace of God ... and everybody deserves a second chance  ... and all the other excuses for not judging others that you hear from people either too timid to speak their mind or scared sh*tless that they'll be judged too...

I think we should all be judged, all the time, and critically at that.  It'd be a better world...

So I guess this means you're gonna be a judge for this, Dave?

 ;D ;D

Great! I'll sign you up Dave. It's good to have another volunteer!

We now have Yannick Pilon, Rich Goodale, and (fingers crossed) Dave Schmidt.

Thanks again, and feel free to add any advice/input.

Mike won the last one we did back, well it must have been four years ago wasn't it Mike? (There may in fact been another design contest, but I didn't help with that one!)

What I did was pick out a piece of property that was suitable for nine holes. It was a very convoluted piece of property which was right on the ocean--and there was a cleaver trick involved in this!

Many of the participants came through with some really good stuff, and I think I actually have some of them still--I'll have to look. The winning design received a copy of some brand new book called, The Evangelists of Golf by some unknown, former dry cleaner named Bluto.... Or was Bubbo?

Anyway....Mike's design was pretty good and it was in tune with....VIOLA! The former course that was on that site! Seth Raynor's Ocean Links! (That was the trick)

If nominated, I will not run.

If I am forced to run, I will not serve.

However, if bribed by hot GCA groupie women who Chip Gaskins can provide I'm sure, I will be proud to judge any and all contestants.

Quid pro quo is my motto.  ;)

Like Bernie Madoff, you always have to play a little hard to get.  ;)
