Rancho San Marcos- Who did the renovation?

This is the statement from RSM's website:


 Drawing inspiration from ancient oaks, nineteenth century adobe structures and an original stagecoach trail, Rancho San Marcos is steeped in history and tranquil beauty. Originally designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. - and recently renovated by owner, Ty Warner - this 6800 yard Par 71 course offers stunning views of the Santa Ynez River Valley, distant furrowed peaks and eagles soaring above Lake Cachuma. 


I thought RTJ, Jr. performed the renovation, no? If not, it sounds like another "Donald" in the making.  :P

I am not sure the renovator wants to be known. I was disappointed after playing the renovated RSM. From what I could surmise #15 fairway was resurfaced and that's about all. I am not sure Mr. Warner is a golfer, but I was hoping for more given his resources.

As part of our recent renovations we've implemented the following:
   
 • Reestablished the original green and bunkers on Hole #1
 • Created a new green and bunkers at Hole #3 
 • Created a new cart path and bridge from green #3 to tee #4
 • Refurbished all of the bunkers on site
 • Mitigated for the removal of three trees to improve fairway
    site lines at hole #15
 • Added new bunkers at fairway #17 and fairway #11
 • Added new target greens on the practice range
 • Opened-up the site line on fairway #18

Warner spent a ton o' money on the San Ysidro Ranch, and is in the middle of major work at the Biltmore, including a new beach club (the old casino). From what I have seen he does things first class, and then some. 

Would ultimately expect the golf to be no different, but he does seem to focus personal attention and resources on the hotel properties. It would be nice to see them do something with the Montecito CC property other than a Nicklaus course. Hey Ty, let's start with a partial resotration of the Behr work that's left!

Jon, Nicklaus has the work, and given that more than half the course is on a relatively steep side hill, I'd expect to see a whole lot of earth moving going on.  A WHOLE lot.

Certainly; but that Nicklaus press release is about 4 years old at this point. I played there last summer and the head pro was uncertain when they might even start, and had not seen or heard of a routing. Sounded like Warner had shelved the project to some degree. It sure would be nice if someone could shame him into saving the Behr features that are remaining.

It will be quite depressing once the place is leveled and another small piece of our history disappears forever. At that point all we will have is another lousy course by "Jackie". After all, Aliso Viejo, Robert Ball's favorite track, is another one of his feature works built on a large slope....and is one of the worst courses I've ever played.

Jon, my Santa Barbara friends say their Montecito CC friends are quite certain it will happen, just not sure of exact schedule.  The members are apparently ready to get something started, tired of the waiting around.

I don't blame them, and that's about what I had heard (that there was no schedule).....The course is pretty depressing in today's state, even with the few Behr features that are left.

The latest issue of SCGA's Fore Magazine features Ty's Sandpiper and RSM courses, and indicates RTJ Jr. did the renovation and that Ty does not play golf.
