JMorgan:

You can't be serious.

"Because I have a life," would probably be the most popular answer to your question followed by, "because I'm in the business and I realize most people who post are talking out their ass," with a close third being, "because I'm back on my medication."

Other popular responses: I've developed some self esteem; I've come out of the coma; the warden took away my computer priviledges.

Tony, you know it always worries me when you start parading out your so-called life.  In fact I've spoken to your nurse about it.

IMHO I think people leave it when they begin to look at it as more than entertainment and an outlet.  They begin to become absorbed in it and think that the golf world is actually listening to some of this stuff.  And then when they awake......well..it hits them that most golfers could care less for architecture......
As with Jeff, my new year resolution is to post less but more in the realm of JaKa. ;D ;D ;D  he seems to nderstand the site better than most and uses it as it should be used.... ;D

My nurse said I can have a life if I want one, as long as I'm back on the grounds by 5 p.m.

This is a great thread, mostly because it's funny.

I would leave GCA if it stopped being funny, or if I managed to alienate all of my friends.  One or two mortal enemies might do the trick as well.

As for your other question, I think this board would stand to benefit from thoughtful posters who are associated with Tom Fazio, Rees Jones and other architects whose design philosophies or methods are seldom represented or advocated. In the early days of GCA.com, it would be unthinkable given the crowd. Nowadays, it might seem possible for such persons to come on board without the corresponding Kulturkampf.

I strongly agree with this statement.  Thanks for that.

One of mine is the Macroeconomic Trends and Risks board at The Motley Fool, which might otherwise be called "The Sky Is Falling" board.  The housing bubble blog is occasionally referenced there.  I have to be careful not to become too depressed.  I'll end up spending evenings with Anthony.

In the bowling thread one of our posters treated us to an anecdote desribing a sexual conquest decades ago.  I my leave if this starts a trend.

Is this really all it would take to rid us of you, Hammy?

A mass IM appeal would be pretty easy to organize....

Just kidding.  We love ya, man.  But wow that was a softball.

Tom,

I know, I almost sent a fictional IM to a fictitious character.  ;)

I won't be leaving the group any time soon, but it sure would be nice if there was an additional board aside from Golf Course Architecture.  You know, something to lasso all the OT discussions, personal golf trips, and what kind of TP Tiger Woods uses.  Just one more would do - a title of "Everything Else" would be fine with me.
