I just finished reading this book.  By far the most interesting parts of the book are the numberous photographs and maps showing the rudimentary course layouts and conditions that existed in 1900.

The book helps put the writings of Mackenzie, Tillinghast, Behr and Thomas into context and it demonstrates why Golden Age design was such a giant leap forward.
