Matt, I don't think Oakmont needs heavy rough either - in fact, I'd love to see them buzz it down to almost nothing and do a test tourney, and I think they're probably seriously considering my suggestion :-\ - but I take the word of the actual winner from 2001 over a bunch of tour pros who are just spouting the party line.

I'm not a fan of groupthink - which is pretty ironic, given the reputation of this site among its handful of critics.

Often times with bermuda rough, like other grasses as well, it's not just the length that matters as the thickness or lushness (I know not a word but you know what I mean) is what really determines how it plays. Bermuda rough early in the summer (June) is not usually as tough as rough later in the summer. Throw in a wet summer like OK has had and I'm guessing the rough at SH will be plenty challenging.

Interesting side note: George Pepper chose #12 at Southern Hills -- the hole pictured on the 1st page of this thread -- as one of the 18 best holes in golf.
