I am heading to Jackson Hole for Labor Day Weekend and am wondering if there are any recommendations, both public and private. Rees' 3 Creek Ranch is the only course I know about there, and I know nothing else about the area.

It goes without saying, but please do not consider this an access request.

Sean,
I will also be interested in responses as I'm going to be attending an event there next spring. In the little bit of looking I've done it appeared the best options were 3 Creek Ranch on the private side and Teton Pines GC and Jackson Hole GC on the public/semi-private/resort side. Headwaters in Idaho across the mountains is another private club that's highly rated in GD. Both resorts appeared to be pretty pricy in their high season.

I don't know anything about these courses other than what's on the websites, so if anyone can add details or suggestions I also would appreciate it.

A month ago I played a stellar new Tom Weiskopf design in Jackson called Snake River Sporting Club.  I actually got there 20 minutes after Mr. Weiskopf had left.  He was there playing the course to see how it was turning out.  He calls it his best U.S. design to date.  It is private so you'll need some kind of access.

It has a completely different feel from 3 Creek.  3 Creek is much more open with no trees, plenty of water, and some great views of the Tetons on the back 9.  The conditioning is top notch as well.  Snake River plays firmer and faster with a totally secluded feel pinned between tree covered mountains and the Snake River.  Headwaters at Teton Springs in Victor, ID has a similar feel to 3 Creek but features a few more trees.  I have photos of all these courses, I could post a few if it would help in your decision.

Bill S:

I've seen that quote from Weiskopf in the p.r. for that course.  And the superintendent at Rock Creek worked there before moving to our place, and had very nice things to say about it.

However, when Weiskopf was put on the spot to name his favorite designs at the Golf Digest Panelist Summit last fall, he forgot to name Snake River, for whatever reason.

Bill,
I'm always for pictures if you're willing to post. I've looked at the websites for 3 Creek and Headwaters both of which have a fair amount of photos, but I've not seen anything on Snake River. Do you have a website link for that one?

There's another course into Montana by Weiskopf called Yellowstone Club. Anybody played that one?

Sean,
Played both Jackson Hole golf and tennis and Teton Pines.  I am a little more drawn to Jackson.  Both are in great shape and have great views.  I just like the holes at Jackson better.  Haven't played since they shut down and renovated the course.  Not sure if changes were very radical or just small.  Teton has some great holes particularly the 15th and 7th.  Very undulating greens. Both very fun to play. 3 Creek looks pretty wide open, on old farmland with lots of containment mounding. Snake River Sporting Club is spectacular from what the other pros in the section are saying.  Headwaters in Victor is good.  Hale Irwin also designed a reverseable course in Driggs. Haven't heard much about it.  Also in Driggs is The Links @ Teton Peaks, a David Druzinsky(sp) design I've heard is a lot of fun to play.
