When is a Tom Fazio a Tommy Fazio?
« on: May 08, 2007, 12:07:55 PM »
I recently met a gentleman who loved the Trump course near the USGA headquarters.  He told me it was a Tommy Fazio, I told him I had played plenty of Tom Fazio courses.. "No" he said it is a Tommy Fazio---his nephew..  I was perplexed because when I did a search I thought Tom Fazio did that course.. Are they part of the same company?   If you were Trump, couldnt you hire Tommy at a lot less $$$ per design fee and have people think it is his uncle?

Won't there be confusion going forward?

Bruton,
I think there is a fine line between Tom and Tommy. A VERY fine line.

It is common for architects to have the same last name and is not a problem for anyone.  This is not unlike when our forefathers would call for a portrait painter and not specify which Peale they wanted.  The only people who thought there was a fine line between Peales probably had soot in their eyes from working in the mines...and who they hell were they to get a portrait anyway.

This is silly, Tom is Tom and Tommy is Tommy except when Tommy wants to be Tom. ;D
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

I started a thread trying to find that out too.  How many Fazios are designing golf courses?  When Princess redid their Dick Wilson Emerald course in 2000 it was done by "Tom Fazio".  It was a very young Tommy Fazio that did some of the shaping.  Does that mean TOM designs and TOMMY builds?
