Mike DeVries and I came up with the name Black Forest while brainstorming about it one afternoon early in the project.

I thought I read that you also came up with the name Pacific Dunes
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

The best thing to do to protect a name of a golf course is 1) pick a name that is unique

Unfortunately, this is what ends up giving us names like Patagonia Trace at Nebbish Ridge, or the like.

As to Fa Tass, does the logo look anything like this:

I think I know her.
"We finally beat Medicare. "

For what it's worth, and as humiliating as it is to admit it at this point......that picture is of ME.

And, for what it's worth, I'm not a she. Just an old hippie.

Cary:

The name Pacific Dunes was suggested by a friend of Mike's who came out while we were under construction.  The previous suggestions for the name were not nearly as dynamic, so as soon as he suggested Pacific Dunes, I was all over it.

some of the other suggested names, per the book "Dream Glf":  Sand Valley, Looming Dunes, Loony Dunes, Lazy Dunes,Lucifer's Links, etc.....

here's 1 person hoping Mr. Keiser doesn't really use Old MacDonald  :o for the 4th course
199 played, only Augusta National left to play!

Jay,
It took almost 2 years and we had to go back and define meaning for them etc...pain the butt

Tell me about it!  I deal with them EVERY DAY.

Does fa Tass mean anything in a foreign language or something?
Fa Tass Sporting Apparel is a clothing line we have begun for large guys....it is French for Fat Ass....We just have 2 items for now plus hats...the golf shirt starts with XL and goes to 5XL and is extra long.  We try to address fat guy problems such as chaffing or what is called caddy ass....so we have some underwear made (much like Under armor) where it is dyed a light brown and comes in one color,Fudge.  It can be worn for days without washing....it is not stain resistant bt it hides them well....we are currently working with gold bond medicated powder to private label  "FaTass Nut Powder" to help with the underwear.....
Will also have a Queso dip and BarBQ sauce before Christmas....
Website will be up by June 1.

Well no wonder it took you two years!  I'll bet that the PTO said it was too vulgar at first, right?

That's like the time the PTO REFUSED to register a trademark in FCUK (That's French Connection United Kingdom for those of you scoring at home) because people's eyes would see a certain nasty word.  Thats why FCUK carries only the TM and not the R in a circle.

Kirk, I dont think you can blame names like "The satisfaction at nimrod shores" or "the rise at cialis creek" on lawyers and trademark, that's more along the lines of marketing chumps who want to give their course a signature. ;D

I used to regularly exhibit at the Surf Expo in Orlando and at each show there were at least 3 or 4 companies that were trying to get a t shirt line off the ground with some variant of that F word (not the other new F word :)).

I was always too distracted by the Reef Brazil exhibits to ever notice whether or not any of these lines succeeded.

My only attempt at registering a trademark was both simple and successful. Too bad it never took off. Ironically enough, the only competitor to my mark, used for a clothing line, was from a golf related company. I wasn't even a golfer at the time.

Has anyone played this new course north of Denver?  I believe it is a Engh design but can't find much information (or pictures) on it.

Thanks,

Andrew

Poor Andrew!  he asks about the golf course and the thread devolves to pictures of Kirk and trademark registration stories.

Lets get this puppy back on line!  Who's played harmony club?  Denver roll call!  Start sounding off!  Anybody played or know anything?

If the word "At" is used in the name of a course, run, don't walk in the other direction.

Somebody might have been out there.  Maybe some supers or shapers or builders are lurking.

Anyway, the poor guy wanted info about the course and we morphed the thread into...whatever this is now.

And yes Cirba, I agree...if "at" is in the title, cue the laugh track.

And I'm no help either but I cannot look at this thread any longer without commenting that 'The Harmony Club' does sound to me more like the kind of establishment one might find off of the Reeperbahn.

Did you ever play the Tivoli?  Or any of the others?  The closest I can say was playing soccer for Campo De Fiore against a Hamburg team.  We won 4-2.

What was that I was saying about staying on point again?
