Played a practice round for the Kelly Cup yesterday, and I must say that the tree removal has done absolute wonders for that course. I've never played a course that is in better shape than Lakeside is right now -- what a treat to play.
The tree removal also opened up the course and made it less claustrophobic off the tee. While still overall a "tight" golf course, it no longer has the "hemmed in" feeling that it did up to the tree removal.
Bravo for the membership for approving it. Everyone I talked to yesterday said that it was touch and go whether or not the tree removal was going to be approved, and many members were dead set against it, but prudence won the day, and evidently the new superintendent is revered there for his foresight and insistence on the tree removal.
Anyone contemplating doing tree removal at their course in the coming years?
