I can think of a couple of good courses, Harlech and Pyle and Kenfig, that could probably be made great if only they were allowed to take in some adjacent land, in these cases sand dunes and heavily protected. However I can think of a fun course, Bull Bay, mildly eccentric in parts, which I'm sure could be made great by the acquisition of neighbouring land, at present occupied by cows and sheep. That land is of the same humpy bumpy gorse-clad kind as the rest of the course. A little land acquisition would mean that the lowland holes (clearly not original) could be taken out of play. However, I very much doubt that it's an affluent club.
A great many courses are bounded by houses and could not, therefore, be improved by land acquisition. But are there courses which, as you play them, you think, 'If only they could get hold of THAT patch of land this could be turned into a great course'?
