Meyrick Park-Minor Colt
« on: October 01, 2002, 04:07:05 PM »
Meyrick Park is a very popular muni in Bournemouth, on England's south coast.  It's of the pine and heather variety; it's quite a short course and has good undulating terrain.  But not too steep because my grandfather played it well into his 70s (I think I might have walked it as a boy, but can't remember).

I believe the course is quite well preserved, but I suspect it's not as rugged.  There is a website, but it doesn't show much.

This chap Ambrose is very interesting, he writes extensively in Golf Illustrated on architecture and is a fine artist too.

4th again.

Not too sure about that bunker!?

PS
I usually post only old pics simply because I can't find new ones!

How many golf writers have illustrated their own columns? Interesting comment about Simpson. It sounds like Colt re-designed this course, any idea when and who designed the original?

Tom Dunn built two courses at Meyrick Park.  And then Colt then remodelled the site into a single 18, I think he may have taken in some new land and I get the impression that the course has very little of Dunn's original courses.  A bit like at nearby Broadstone, although there are a handful of Dunn holes left there.

The scale of that 14th green complex is amazing!

There's quite a decent modern book on golf in Dorset called "Golf in Hardy Country".
