Classic Club - Palm Desert, California

Ranked #3 by Golf Digest among new public courses over $75.  Palmer/Seay.  Like many, I am skeptical of Golf Digest's rankings.  After all, they rank Great River over Yale!  Plus this course's website talks a lot about the pine trees and water hazards, and the name is pretentious.

However, I am going on my annual Palm Springs trip in February and am always interested in new courses.  Has anyone heard anything about this course?

One friend who rates courses mentioned he likes Escena, a new Nicklaus design.  I believe he has played both and preferred Escena.

Pretty interesting story I heard but don't remember the details that someone gave all the land + money and the green fees goes to charity or some variation of that.

As far as the course goes, it was underwhelming.
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

I've played Escena and found it enjoyable.  Wide for a desert course, not penal in any way, and very low-profile.  I would not mind getting back out that way.

Sorry, but I don't have anything on the Classic Club other than to ask you what you have played in PD and what you consider the better options - we can offer advice to work around what you've already seen/liked/disliked.

Home course is Shadow Ridge, which is fun to play. Played PGA West for the first time last year and liked it more than I expected.  Also Desert Willow which is ok and Player course at Mission Hills, which we are unlikely to reture to.

I liked the classic club.  my favorite palmer/seay, which is not saying much.  quite challenging.  Also, I always enjoy playing courses that are on TV, so I can a) relate a bit to the shots the pros are hitting, and b) relive my round a little.
I havent played escena.
