Is This the Most-Beautiful View of a GC in the World?
« on: November 20, 2006, 08:51:12 AM »
Not the most-beautiful course, nor the best views from a course, but the most-beautiful view that takes in a course?

This is Metropolitan Golf Course, Mouille Point.

I would love to see what tops this -- ladies and gentlemen, post 'em if you got 'em!

Mark

I was impressed this weekend when showing an aerial view of the busses leaving Michigan stadium on the way to the Ohio State game there was a shot that included the golf course, the stadium and the busses.  It was a beautiful shot and greatly increased my desire to play the course.

Mark,  is there poverty in those pics.

I am going to take a victory right there my friend. The kids just might be able to have some gravy on there turkey and stuffing this year. Thanks John.

Mark,

Sorry for the OT, I had a lot of dough riding on JK going off topic before Thanksgiving and I am taking that last post as a sign that the real JakaB has returned. His political aspirations of becoming a moderator here seem finished. Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming.

I think that is a pretty awesome view that includes a golf course. I would bet that picture is one of the best we'll see. Where exactly is Mouille Point? New Zealand?

Henry,

You read my mind. However, I don't have the pics.

Ocean views always seem to have too much flat blue to me. I prefer the conoured green of the mountains.

Mark - were you in Cape Town recently? Metropolitan sure aint a course you would recommend any GCA person to visit, but if you are in Cape Town for a few days there are enough other things to keep you busy without needing to resort to your clubs for a few days.

After further review, the mere mention of the aerial shot of the golf course qualifies as GCA related.

This is the best view from the club house.

The course is Palheiro in Funchal, Madeira.

Nice job on Banff!  Arrowhead in Colorado resonates with some who find the red rocks restorative and Coeur D'Alene is pretty too, but yes, Banff may be "prettiest."

Although some love K Cliffs and cape K's.

Maybe you guys are on to something here and ahead of the next craze . . . .

First Fazio concerns himself with building golf holes to provide photo-esque views from the tees . . .

Then Engh takes it to the next level, concerning himself with providing photo-esque views from the tees and the cart paths . . . .

Now you guys take the next logical step, concering yourselves with photo-esque views from locations well away from the course itself . . . a birds-eye approach to gca.

Call me old fashioned by I still like views from an actual course the best.

I am really sorry but not one of those pics does anything for me.

Give me North Berwick on a calm, cloud free sky and I am in heaven.

...and I live in Norway with some of the best views in the world.

The photo quality isn't as fine as Henry's, but this one helps put an all-world golf hole in the proper perspective...

OK, Maybe not the best or most beautiful, but an honorable mention should be given to the view from Mt. Tamalpais.

Does anyone have a photo of Royal Portrush from the road that goes along the ridge above the golf course? I think that is the way to get there from the town of Bushmills, but I might be wrong.

That is my vote for most inspirational overlook. I recall being torn between staring transfixed at the tumbling linksland below and getting into the car and rushing down the hill to the first tee.

I'm sure SOMEBODY in the Treehouse has that picture to post.

I'm with Brian (though not in Norway).  The title of this thread is Most Beautiful View of a Golf Course, not most beautiful view with a golf course hidden in it.

In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

Riederalp, you got it! And you didn't cheat by looking at the filename, did you??? :)

Kudos to the Switzerland-Guessers as well. I took this from the cable car descending from the Hohfluh peak. Riederalp is at an altitude of 6250 feet, making the season go from mid-June to mid-October :)
