The website is up. Take a tour of the course, the 18th hole in particular:

What's the big deal about that?  (Just kidding.  If you haven't seen it, I think I see three greens.)

A few quick thoughts just after looking at the yardage book:

- I like the scattered centerline bunkers present on holes 2, 3, 14, and 18
- #3 looks like a really interesting par 4, it appears to have a wide shallow green and a collection area in the back
- From the drawing, #2 looks like it could perhaps have a punchbowl type green, that would be cool
- #11 looks like to also have a very wide and shallow green.  A pin tucked on that right side would give be a very tiny target
- 3 greens on #18 is definitely unique.  The middle one appears to be extremely narrow.  I read an article on Jim Engh a few months ago where he discussed this hole and said he deliberated for a while on which greensite to build as he liked them all, and then just decided to build all 3.

It's weird how the holes opposite each other in the pictures -i.e., back to back - look really similar - 2/3, 6/7, 8/9, 14/15, 16/17. Hmph.

Also the routing looks like #13 and #14 play over a finger of the lake, but in the yardage book it's just grass?

Maybe the shadows are playing tricks on me but it appears that almost all the greens are placed in man-made sink holes or at least partial bowls.

This is the kind of thing I love to see . . . an architect who pushes the limits!  Any ordinary schmuck designer can entomb some of his greens in big grass ampitheaters, but Engh is not satisfied with ordinary.   17 sunken greens?  How about 18?  Could it really be 19 or 20?   Whatever the final number, it is impressive.  With all the extra greens on the last hole it has got to be a personal record.  And that is saying something.

My legs are burning just thinking about the climbs back to the cart.   ::)

Go to current projects and scroll down to Reynolds. There are pictures of the construction and grassing, mowing patterns of the new course.

It looks like there are some interesting things going on there. I'm not sure about those centerline bunkers on 18 though. What is the benefit of challenging them? It looks like the ground "beyond" the bunkers is higher, possibly affording a better view for the second shot. But it also looks to be a significantly longer shot from there.

The fairway bunkers on 4 look like they could create all kinds of options.  11 appears to be a cool reverse Redan.

The "About" page on reynoldscreekclub.com mentions "...a blend of turfgrasses that has only been used on a handful of courses around the world...". Does anyone have insight into this?

#13 green looks pretty cool.

#18 would ruin it for me... pretty strange.

I'd say it's a little worse than weird.
And I'd say 4/5, 10/11, 12/13 & 18/18 look the same too.

Hopefully the course isn't as contrived as it appears in the yardage book.   The repetition in bunkering and hole design is weird at best.

If the images in the yardage book can be believed, let's see Matt Ward defend this design  :P  There seems to be a lot of repetition of awful looking features.

Question: Can anyone explain the fairway left of the bunkers on #18?

Observation: At the very least the player will be faced with various options/decisions from the tee on numerous holes. Too many? True strategy or window dressing?

Prediction: #18 will not have 3 separate green complexes for more than one year.

These are exactly the type of bunkers that Jim seems to be making a career on.  I just don't understand this type of bunkering?
